good set, esp 1 and 5. 4 looks pretty soft to me, and 3 and 6 look a bit muted (did you desaturate?).

Thanks for the feedback narlus...

I'm going over 3 and 6 now... Although the stage light was hot at times, these two pics can be desaturated... I've done #3 and it looks just a bit brighter... I'll try #6 and replace or post them both here...

#3. Re-done.

Thanks Narlus...

Personally, I really like the light tones of the blue...
The band management really like the set...

They especially like #2... There was a guy from the TV Emmy's at the show, and he also really likes all of these pics...
I'm going to consider this my best set, cause of the subjects and composition... The technical stuff I can still tweak from RAW if need be...

Very nice, John. Very nice. # 2 is one of the best Southside shots I have ever seen, and I have seen literally thousands. I am not surprised that management took a liking to it as well. The reprocessing of # 3 definately made it better.

Hope you got a rockin' show as well.

Thanks Ski...

I wish I could say it was easy... Thank goodness the exposure settings were good enough to capture the moment... I've forwarded (#3) a reprocessed photo to the band too. Nothing worse than sending corrections after the fact...

Surprisingly, I didn't get to watch much of the show... I heard it but, in fragments... Was just too busy taking pictures, and getting around the venue...

One time I went upstairs to the far opposite corner of the venue, only to find the doors closed to the public... Instead of identifying myself as the photographer for the show, I walked all the way back around... (While everyone knew I was on the job, this one real nice restaurant hostess wasn't aware, and I didn't press the issue...) Must have missed 5 minutes of the action...

Really like the first 1.
Lovely colors.
I like the whole band shot at the end too. Shame about the guys head covering up most of the keyboard player.
Awesome set.

Awesome John! I used to watch Johnny and Bruce at the stone pony when I lived in Asbury park back in the mid 70s. Just good stuff!

Regarding Bruce: skifurther, one of us here at POTN is also from the Asbury area, he gets to photograph Bruce...

I have a couple of band members you might want to see.

Geez, John, centering everything is weird! Oh, nice shots! Love the two with the "long instruments".

Focal Length = 200/1 mm = 200.00 mm
Focal Length = 140/1 mm = 140.00 mm

Thanks for the compliment Dwight...

I'm going through a centering phase of my life right now... These phases usually get old after a while, and conforming back to the norm is typical of me...

The long instruments were tough to get cause I had to use a center focus point and still fit them into the viewfinder...

:p

I was playing the lens trombone in sync with the musician... I caught this shot on the "in" stroke...All other shots were caught during the extension of the trombone. Those make for great head shot close ups...

The problem was with keeping a focus point on them and still containing the instrument... I tried vertical and then horizontal... The Sax player did me a favor and tilted the sax horizontally, to allow me to get his head in center spot focus, and still contain the sax...

Both shots were taken from different locations... I was on the move the entire show, so as not to block the audience for too long...

I am just thankful that you are done with the large font, bold, primary colors phase!

I've almost forgotten those... You recall that 5,000th post celebration for Rene'? That was just a few months ago...Man, time really flies around here...

I don't think I'll be going back to that stage anytime soon...

Thanks for keeping an eye on me... Dwight... I owe you one...:D

It's sort of like a fashion show... Sometimes, not everything matches, and that, at least for me, usually isn't good...

John, thanks for the great pictures of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. I love their style of music and would love to see them in concert.

On a side note, I love Springsteen music, specifically pre-Born in the USA music, plus a few songs since. I have seen him in concert four times, last being in May of 2000 in Harford, CT. The May 2000 show was tremendous, best of my four. IMO, Springsteen's best music had much to do with the Jersey scene.

Thanks again.

Thanks RobotDoctor,

Southside does a lot of gigs all year long... They are going to Europe for a while, later this year... Maybe they'll go out west to you guys...

Here is a link to their web site:

The Jersey, bands often run together, and even share musicians...

I must admit though, I missed a lot of the show again cause I was too busy taking photos...

Thanks thelightofsound... I'm getting better in Post Processing and the "L" lens with IS helps a lot too...

I believe it is the Coronet...Although the pics i could find of a Coronet on Ebay have a more pronounced curve on the bottom...
