My girlfriends brother says that Canon and Nikon are owned by the same parent company.
However I do not believe this.
Can anyone help me convince him that they are in fact they are 2 different companies? Need hard facts here.

My mom says I'm hansom. It don't mean she's rite.
Would you consider your girlfriends brother to be a reliable source?
If its true, I wouldn't be surprised.

As long as the forum is kind enough to provide a forum for silly rumors, be so good as to use it.
Thread moved to "Rumors"
I suppose we need a forum for "untrue"

Nikon is owned by Mitsubishi. Canon is their own company along with printers, video, copiers, other business machines. I don't think they are connected.
Have Fun,

I found out that they both have a lot of the same shareholders like Japan Trustee Services bank and State Street Bank and Trust Company.
These are the tow biggest shareholders in Nikon and Canon
So it is true.
This is no rumor.
Canon and Nikon are owned by the same companies.

No. You are not correct. Shareholder ownership is not like that. I own Apple and RIM stocks. That does not make them the same company.
Accept that Canon is a sole proprietary and does not have a parent company. Nikon DOES. End of story.

Well, I own a little Canon - and a little Nikon. Precious little, I'll add.
Both companies are owned by their respective shareholders, or the shareholders of their holding company.

Anyone ever notice how in-laws (especially brother-in-laws) tend to be full of crap?
