I would be interested to know if anyone has experience with popular noise reducing software such as Noise Ninja and Neat Image. Sometimes I have to shot with iso 800 or 1600 in dark situations with a tele lens and post production noise reduction would be useful.

How do these two softwares compare and which gives better performance and value?

Kind Regards

Chris

Also consider Noiseware by Imagenomic. I think they all have demo versions that you download and try. When testing them out, view your images at 100% and see how well each one reduces noise without destroying detail.

Hello Chris;

Do a search for "Noise Ninja" or "Neat Image" or "Noiseware" in the PP/RAW processing section of the forum, and you'll see hundreds of reviews of all software...

Inevitably there are advocates for all variations on the theme...

Best bet is to download evaluations of all & test them to see which suits your own requirements...

Cheers;

Lee

Wrong forum. You might get better info in the post processing area.

I use Neat Image, I ahve also Noise NInja. For some reason I just like the results of NI over NN. But I have heard the exact opposite, I think its a personal thing.

Another reason I like NI is that I can batch process before I go to bed and wake up and all the pictures are done. I shoot alot of low light sports and am always using ISO 1600 or 3200...works great! AS LNONG AS THE EXPOSURE IS CORECT!

I never have used a noise reduction plug in. Whenever I've needed NR I've used the NR in ACR and/or photoshop. I have several photos of the Taj Mahal taken at both sunrise and sunset that need better NR than what I can get from CS3.
What is the value in these NR plug-ins?
Do they do a better job than CS3?
Are they quicker?
I notice that NR in either PS or ACR takes a heck of a long time - much more than sharpening does.

Noise Ninja for me. I like the ISO preset modules. Seems to work well. It is rather simple to manipulate. I use it as a Photoshop CS plugin.

Noise Ninja does a good job, you have to play with the settings on every image though. If i have to run it I just let it auto profile the image then fade the effect down to 25% and that usually does the trick faster.

Its the application I prefer too, works great.
