Something doesn't look right about this, I think it's just too light or needs more contrast, or it may just be the surreal effect of HDR. The burnt out areas of the sky don't help.

I'm on board with curiousgeorge on this one. It just doesn't look right to me, more fake than anything.

Thanks for the feedback. Agree with the burnt out sky between the horizon, have to get that positioning of the GND right on long exposures. On the HDR I do not use any of this technic on my photo, I personally don't like the look at all. On the light and contrast, Calabiration gear for my monitor is on its way.

Thanks for the feedback , though as above comment to curiousgeorge may answer some of your thought's. Cheers

Your sea and sky don't seem to match. The sea looks as if you've done a 15 sec exposure to get it flattened out, yet the sky is certainly bright enough to blow out anything that long.

I'm curious what you've done. It looks ok but at the same time it looks a little too fake. Make sense?

Thanks for the thoughts, PP done in Lightroom . The foreground was a bit under exposed, so worked on bringing the light out. In Photoshop only adjustments done were new layer adjustments in curves and levels. That's it. This was taken on sun down. Light was coming from behind me. Hope this answers the question. Cheers

I Love LR and am still learning the power of it. I think maybe what is bothering me is that the exposure appears SO even over the whole shot. When it really comes down to it though, if you're happy with the result that's all that matters. I find the hardest thing with my shots is my own criticism of my work. I think it is well composed and has some great elements. The sky, the foreground has good interest and I LOVE long exposures on the sea!

I can't speak for other people but I thought it was an HDR (gone wrong) because the image just didn't look right to me. I guess it's just the PP he did to the original that didn't work for me. But as with anything, to each his own. Hopefully you don't mind, here my take on it after about 30 seconds:

Robert,
Really love the clouds in this. Also love the green in the rocks and the blues in the sky. Nice shot.

Having seen the original it's now clear the problem is that the grad filter has worked too well and made the foreground needing darkening. I think this reversal is what makes it look unnatural.

Wouldn't selective burning been better here?

I think rpachen's edit is way too constrasty and less aesthetically pleasing than the image at the top.

Although, on first glance, I echo the criticism stated in this thread I have to say I find myself mesmerized by it. The more I look at it the more I love it. The surreal light behind the clouds works perfectly here in my opinion. Maybe the image would benefit from being horizontal?
