I'm thinking about getting a 1 gig CF card for my DRebel. Right now it's a toss up between the Sandisk 1 gig and the Kingston 1 gig (the standard one, not the high performance one). Anyone got any good or bad to say on those 2?

I've got a 512 scandisk...it's slow, but it hasnt failed me yet.

so it works ok in the camera? I'm not so worried about "dump" time, but more so it slowing down the camera. All I've got right now is a typical no frills 128 from Wally World and it seems to do ok.

Since the buffer on the Digital Rebel is smaller than on some of the other cameras, does this make CF card write speed more important or less important?

I've got a Kingston 512 right now. I'll probably pop for a 1 gig when that becomes the "sweet spot" in the CF card market. The 512 is adequate when shooting RAW, but if I were going to be away from my PowerBook for any length of time I would buy another one.

Spend $200 and get yourself a MuVo2. Extract your 4 GIG CF card and go crazy taking pictures. Knowing I will not run out allows me significant free to "goof" around with shots.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. As it turns out the Kingston 1 gig was actually cheaper after freight than the Sandisk because it comes from a warehouse that I can get free shipping while the Sandisk didn't (at least from this particular supplier of mine). I can't wait till it gets here, my wife and I have been dying to play with it and we've been out diving every weekend since we got it and haven't had anytime to just play with it. I bought her a Rebel G (with the time & date stamp) about 6 years ago and she loves it, but being the "tech geek" that I am I've always wanted a digital so that I could play and learn without have a mess of developing fees involved in the process.

I have 4 Kingston cards and about 4 other brands. The Kingston cards have never failed me where I've had minor problems with every other brand.

Thank you! That was exactly what I was hoping (and really kinda figured) I would here. For years Kingston has been, imho, the best memory maker around but usually a little more expensive. Glad that wasn't the case this time.

Hi KD,
also take a look at this site ... it's Rob Galbraith's CF database with write speeds for most common camera models (including the DRebel).

Best regards,

Thanks. I went and looked at that and apparently Kingston isn't one of the best, but for now I really don't have the money for one of the high end faster cards. Kinda makes me sad.

I have two SanDisk Extreme 512mb cards vs. one 1Gb card. They're super fast and I bought them sealed in the package on eBay for around $125 each. I couldn't be happier with them, and I have a little redundancy.
