Is there a longer lasting battery than the BP-511A? Not that it performs badly, I'm just planning on getting a second battery for the bottom grip I'm about to order and was wondering if I should get a different battery.

You get between 400-500 shots (incrementally fewer with flash use and LCD reviews) with just the single 511. You effectively double this with the grip and 2nd battery. That's a lot of shooting between recharges.

You can use either the BP511 or BP512 in the Rebel and also the BG-E1 grip.

There are several makers of replacement batteries, some likely good, others not. While I have a warranty to contend with, I'll stick with the Canon batteries unless they fail to perform, which certainly has not been the case so far.

Oh, I whole heartedly agree, I just wanted to make sure which to get for the second battery.

i have a grip on my rebel, and as adviced by many on this forum, I bought a cheap generic battery. I've had the grip for almost too weeks, and.... I haven't recharged the batteries yet  (I took quite a few pictures, too)
