I've been away for a couple of weeks in (British Columbia and Alaska) so I haven't been on POTN for a while.

Here are a series of shots that I got a day or so before I left for vacation. CanonDSLR and I were fortunate to see this family of young herons. They were hopping around the trees waiting for their parents to return. For a few moments they cuddled up together.

The angle was steep but I'm really glad that I got these.
The shots are all about 85-90% of full frame. Bigma, monopod with fill flash.

"This way!", "No this way!", "No this way!"

Love those captures, Stephen. Hope your trip went well. Steep angle or not, they're total keepers in my book. :D

Solid crisp and clean captures. The detail is superb and although I really like the first and last one...I have to give top kudos to the portrait. Nice work.

Three excellent captures and i know the tree but never got back there until two weeks ago so the fuzz was gone and they looked pretty independent. Very nice details and i don't think the angle hurt these at all.

Thank you Steve, Allen, Alex, Cooper, Reyno, Brandon, Scott, Joe Bea, Jim, Deb and Gary for your kind words and for taking the time to comment.

Thanks Gary. I missed the Green Herons and their young ones completely last summer so I'm very pleased that I got to photograph them this year.

Welcome back. Hope you had a great time on Vancouver Island and Alaska. I'm sure you have some nice pics to share. Stephen, these are really good shots and some of the best I've seen from you....I'm sure I missed many images as I don't come to this forum that often until recently.

Aren't you glad you stuck around with me late that day in early Spring? Curiosity got the best of me and I just had to check it out when most would have just left.

I was told to keep it a secret because disturbance would have forced the birds to find another nest site. I never told anyone (after I was asked not to) up to the time I ran into you there so I was surprised to see you that day. I suppose you put one and one together.

While you seem a responsible bird photographer, there are many out there who are not. Some are just uneducated or don't care for the birds welfare. Just to show you the variety of people out there, one guy even PM me and claimed there were no rare bird reports because of a certain reason. I had to laugh  There are no rare bird reports because there are no rare birds to report. There is no conspiracy :) Sometimes when there is an endangered bird, like the Piping Plover, a location is not given until it is secured. The person sounded bitter so I'll chalk it up to that instead of, well...it would be sad to think someone actually thought that way. There are people who don't think right and these are the people you'd least want to share any such info with.
