When outdoors in sunny conditions and shooting JPG, what white balance setting do you usually use? I find the daylight WB setting (which is around 5200K if I'm not mistaken) a little too warm for my liking.
Do you usually do a custom WB or do you dial in a specific K temperature? Lately, I've been setting my WB at 5700K, which seems to match the color temperature of my 550EX, although I would probably be happy with 5500K.

To be honest, I almost always use Auto white balance at all times, especially if I'm shooting Raw. In most situations I've encountered where I used one of the other settings, the picture nearly always ended up being way too warm. Even when I use the setting for the type of lighting it was intended. ???

95% Auto... but then.. I shoot RAW 95% too....

99% Auto.
I only really set anything else for very odd conditions or shooting several shots that I will stitch into a panorama.
On an average sunny day outside I can barely tell any difference between AWB and sunny and it would never be a problem to tweak it later if you really want to, so I wouldn't bother too much.

Ha ha, I completely forgot about AWB. I stopped using it a long time ago when I read too many reports of it being inconsistent. Maybe I should give it another shot!

If you shoot in RAW it doesn't really matter what you're white balance is set to - you can change it in the RAW converter at any time - just bang away and get the image without worrying about settings such as AWB, Tungsten, etc.

I usually try to match the WB setting with the available lighting. I always set the WB to auto before I put the camera away though, so if I start shooting the next time without paying attention, I've got the best chance to get it right if I forgot to change it to the current lighting situation.
I also shoot in RAW, so that's probably redundant :? The only times I really see the WB setting make a huge difference between auto and a particular WB, is with tungsten, or flourescent. Auto seems to be a little blue in tungsten, and a little green in flourescent. Again though, you can just change it in the RAW conversion. Raw is good :D
