Why the trade up?
I intend on doing sports photography next year..mainly
9 shot buffer vs 4
Also, the blackness...i'm tired of people walking up to me and asking "can i try it?!"
size
build quality
Dial on back of camera
Those are the large ones that effect me anyways

Can I try it?! Who in the hell asks you that?! People are truely amazing. Anyone else have some good reasons to get 10d over a drebel?

Who in the hell asks you that?!
My peers, which unfortunately are teenagers and most of which dont understand the whole concept of "i worked my ass off for this...hands off"

If you want to say 'hands off' you should go get (or make up) some radioactive stickers and paste them all over it. That might keep them at bay.

As a trade in at a camera shop-very little.Figure on half new price or less(?) best to ask the shop
Selling on Epay-i can't be bothered doing any serious searches and a statistical analysis but i seem to remember about 80% of new price from ones i've watched
They really do hold value reasonably well.Mostly because there are still truckloads of people wanting to get into a digital SLR and there is at present no likelyhood of further price drops
(remember when priced halved every year or so?! - that's all over now)

Check out Fred Miranda's Buy/Sell forum, as well as ebay completed items, to get a sense of recent pricing. I bought mine about 2 months ago for $1000 with a (mint) 50mm f/1.4 lens (used prices at $250-$300, when you can find them), as well as an extra battery and a 256MB CF card. So I figure the equivalent used price for the kit was in the range of $750 or so. I had seen new and refurb ones going for about $100 more, so the price seemed about right to me. You might get more with the battery grip, but you might also do better selling it separately.
Good luck!

New prices are definitely coming down. I have seen the body for $760 and kit for $818 (Buydig). I don't know why anyone would pay the used prices I have been seeing when new can be had at this level.
So I would sell now before everyone is selling new at these prices.

... but,.. if a new 10D is coming out soon (IF) then if you were to use that perfectly good Rebel untill the new 10D is released,. then the OLD 10D will be selling for a lot less used..
Also.. IMHO.. your Rebel is doing what it needs to.... before you can consider sports.. you need an appropriate lens... IMHO that will be a more important investment than an upgrade of the body.

hi Tim,
i was thinking of selling mine too. i keep running into the back of the buffer. i'm thinking $690 for body and kit lens. the lens is unused, i got about 2,400 shot on the body. how used is yours? what do you intend to sell it for?
thanks,
eric1

I agree and thought of everything you said. The 70-200 f/2.8 will be ordered next week :-).
But i'd still like to play with my options, also because of all the rumors floating around i'm in no hurry to drop money on something that is going to be replaced. For all i know the next "10D" will have a huge buffer and slightly faster speeds. (i dont see why they couldnt go to 5 or even 6 fps...not that they will  )
If thats the case, with my upcoming raise at work...ya never know what i may feel compelled to buy

I had a 10D and traded it plus cash for a 1D. I shoot a lot of sports and I thought the 3 FPS was more of a limitation than the buffer size. Larger buffer is always nicer but its really the faster FPS that makes the big difference, course you need a bigger buffer when you are firing 8fps/sec.
So maybe consider stepping up even higher.
Why the trade up?
9 shot buffer vs 4

I couldnt agree with you more, and i have only done a few sports photography events. However the 300D is only a few hundred less then the 10D where the 1D is well...a lot more then the 10D

I don't want to discourage anyone from moving up to a 10D, its a fantastic camera and will work for sports. When I really think about it, missed action is likely due to my reaction time, not FPS. Just need to squeeze the shutter sooner and hold down. Moving to the 1D is more want than need in my case.
But now that I have this beast, I am interested in the 300D as a supplement, sort of my version of a carry around, for when I don't want to carry the 1D. So if you guys want to sell, keep me in mind. I would be very tempted in the $6xx range.

Would you be willing to trade the 10d plus cash?

Nope, I no longer have it, I traded it plus cash for the 1D I recently picked up. The other guy wanted it because he had a specialized need - felt the 10D without flash in low light was better than the 1D.
Here is another thread speculating about new prices with the 300D. Seems sales have been impacted by the D70:

I have to agree with him there.. the 1D clearly has a lot of advantages over the 10D.. but there are certain things the 10D does better... more pixels is the obvious,. Cmos Vs. CCD one can argue either way.. but low light, high ISO.. 10D is still the "king" in fact.. the MkII is a huge improvementr over 1D and 1Ds.. but it is pretty much on equal footing with the 10D. (and Drebel as a matter of fact)
