no, you can use it with one battery. Besides I use the generic radio shack batteries that are comparable to the canon ones so they aren't too much anyway.

I have for my 2nd battery "Digital Concepts" BP512, I think it cost me $20 at radio shack, but I could be off by a buck or two. And it works fine.

search for generic batteries on ebay. as far as i remember, they cost around $10 plus shipping. I bought one several month ago. it's as good as canon's.

ok grip cost me 104 with shipping
and 2 BP-512 batteries cost me 12.99 each and then they charged me 12.70 for shipping so i emailed them and said is there anyway yall can charge me for only shipping one since you're going to ship me them in one box
we'll see what happens

When I bought my D rebel today I negotiated with the store owner and he threw in a spare canon battery a BatteryGrip a Soft case and a UV filter. 8)

And I got to admit it does feel good on the camera.

kool guys
yeah i was talking with my coworkers and i was telling that 17000 pix have been taking on the flash card. I started thinking about it and the card was used in my a80 and i took about 9200 pix on it. I've only had my 300d since May 20th, so I've taken almost 8000 pix in a month
i'm just freeking floored at that number.
i think i've taken more on the 300d in a shorter amount cause i had to learn to you use it.

now that brings up a ques
how do we few the shutter clicks on a camera?

haha...my cards had a ton of pictures taken on it too...and the night i got my 300d, i think i took like 600 pics of my desk, cause it was dark outside and i didnt even know you could leave the shutter open

I ordered the battery grip with two Canon BP-511 Battery Equivalents from amazon.com, they were supposed to get here tomorrow, but after reading this thread i checked my account and will not arrive till monday...this is why i hate ordering ont he net, my stuff always gets messed up, no matter who i order with
