We see these quite often while gardening, but this is the firt time I've had the opportunity to photograph one (not knowing until just now what it was).

Then I found out they're not the rapacious predator that I expected them to be, but herbivores, eating my plants from beneath.

Think I'll be leaving them out as birdfood from now on instead of respectfully burying them back in my flowerbeds....!

Hiya Pete,

Great shots, love the detail in the close-up great stuff !!

Damn things finished off half a row of my Lettuce by chompin on the roots, think they live up to 3-4 yrs underground before emerging, the swines :lol:

Excellent shots- quite a vicious looking thing :) but assume it is a vegetarian judging by Mark's comment.
