WOW, Gary.....You actually made an ugly bird look good. Those are really two excellent shots of the ol' buzzard. I like them both, but number 1 really grabs me.

Every time I see one I always think they have gone through some miniature head transplant. Homely...just homely. But I do like their plumage and really enjoyed viewing these. They weren't waiting on you were they? Good work.

Not the most photogenic of birds but you've captured them well Gary. On the second shot, I would have waited for a slight backward head tilt to show the whole head profile, just me.

The truth is I thought it had cleared the wing when I made the shot.

Excellent shots. These poor guys are really cursed with those faces, their backside is actually pretty good-looking. The pose in #2 reminds me of the flightless cormorants in the Galapagos Islands.

Thanks Bea,
They really don't get much attention but the Body and Wing feathers look very much like a Bald Eagle's

Great detail Gary and lovely shots. Based on the appearance of these Turkey Vultures, one would think 'bald eagle' would have been a better name. While on the topic, renaming the Bald Eagle to American Eagle would seem appropriate as well....after all we have a Canadian Goose :D

They sit that way for 10-15 minutes at a time, I'm told drying their wings. I don't know why but their back is always facing the sun when they do. Maybe just warming up!!!

Pretty nice photos of one of the world's least beautiful birds. I especially like the second, only to be be bested if the wing were not interfering with the beak. Very nice catch light, though . . .
