I'd be especially worried about the pups that are still in there to be honest. On second thoughts, I would have put the dog in the back of the car and high tailed it (excuse bad pun) to the nearest vet.

The problem is in many rural areas of this country that can be hours away. There is a big problem in rural areas with a shortage of vets, especially big animal vets.

Me too. But they don't have one. They have a 'traveling' vet that comes once a month for vacs and sterilizing. That's about it.

ay yi yi yi yi..... bueno....

si usted es, asi que hace yo, si yo se.

So, when is class over?
Muy bueno. Class dismissed:lol:.

Looks like Joshua's snout is a bit more square than Ginger's. But they do have a lot of similarities.

Ginger is about 75 pounds. Here's a pic of her with me to show you her size... she's overweight though, so don't let that throw you.
She's 4 years old. Thanks for the info....I wanted to get an idea of what the size could possibly be when Joshua get a little bigger.

Robert, Joshua is a cutie, looks like he is in a gangly stage. How is Dora doing sharing her pack? Thanks Becky. Dora is taking Joshua's presence lightly. She has growled at him a couple times and they both spent the night in the same dog crate getting to know eachother. Although, Dora spent most of the night in her little bed (she has a cat cube with a hole as a bed).

I'm pretty sure that's illegal... Petting is ok.

Robert Joshua is adorable, and so is Dora!! I would venture to say, based on his ears, that he has a bit of pitt bull in him somewhere. Thanks Crissa. I was also thinking today about him looking like he has a little pit bull in him because of the ears also. He is really passive, so I hope if it is true he will take on the personality characteristics of whatever other breed mix he is.

I don't really speak Spanish though. I worked in a Mexican restaurant for 7 years, with all Spanish speaking kitchen staff. We traded language tips all the time. I can ask for extra cheese on the side fluently.

My daughter is in 3rd year Spanish at school. I help her study, so I learn a bit there.

My brother in law is Guatamalan, so my nieces and nephews are bilingual. It helps to know what they want if they are in Spanish mode.
Since you are exposed to it, you should be able to speak spanish pretty well....not only to order extra cheese:lol::rolleyes:.

oh I am MUCH better with written Spanish too. Spoken is hard for me because they go so fast, LOL.
And I use context a lot to figure stuff out too. That's easier to do in written Spanish. My family speaks a lot of spanish...my inlaws and one grandmother do not know english...so for me to communicate with them I had to learn young. My wife's first language was spanish and she had trouble learning english. But the fastest spoken spanish I've witnessed is the spanish spoken by my two co-workers...they are married and when they get into conversation I am like  . My brain has to catch up to my ears for me to process what they said:lol:.

No he was cartoon type, large, bright red.

I know a fair bit about dogs and I would say that, by looks, that dog is mostly Pit Bull and Doberman Pincher with very little lab, if any in him. That is not to say he will not be a nice dog. Rescue people go to great lengths to get dogs adopted and although Karen wrote that nice, and a bit bizarre, book unless she is a well known friend of yours I would not put it past her to embellish the story to get a dog adopted. The way she wrote it screams of animal rights nut. This is obviously my interpretation and I am admittedly biased about "rescue" groups like the ADL. The only "big red dogs", she tried to make sound so cute, that I know are pit bulls and Rhodesian Ridge Backs or a color variation on Doberman which is more of a liver color. Huge numbers of pits and pit mixes go through the shelters. This is because most shelters get their dogs from urban environments where there is a glut of poorly bred dogs from the fighting trade and dogs that are bred to look and be mean because there is a market for them among thugs and drug dealers. Don't get me wrong I love dogs and would never condemn a dog solely on it's breeding but it is important to understand dogs intimately if you end up with an aggressive breed. Good luck and take anything a "shelter" tells you with a tablespoon of salt. On a side note I heard on the police scanner a few hours ago of a street robbery in D.C. where 4 Pit Bull puppies were stolen at gun point. I will jump of the soap box before I really get ranting about thugs robbing each other of pit bulls.
Thanks for the info Zane...I also see the pit bull traits in him, but hopefully Joshua won't have anyother characteristics of one. I know what you mean about the large volume of pit bulls passing through the shelters...there were at least 5 or 6 that I saw there. What would your take be on Joshua being taller than those pit bulls that I saw at the shelter? Think that if he did have any pit bull in him, it would be recessive traits? Either way, I enjoy having the pup and have missed having a dog that will actually want to play when outside. Dora just does her business and runs inside....so she doesn't have to be in un-airconditioned environments long:rolleyes:.

Robert - Joshua is GORGEOUS. When I scrolled down and saw him it made me catch my breath. I used to have a chocolate lab. I miss him - his name is Baloo.
Thanks Athena. I like chocolate labs...so when I saw Joshua, I thought this would have been the closest I would get to rescuing one from the shelter. My uncle has a male chocolate lab and tried to breed him once, but the female (old next door neighbor of mine) would not let my uncles lab near her.

It was quick but intense;) You mean the same Nevada where the civil air patrol has been searching for a week to find Steve fosset and his wrecked Plane? the same Nevada where during the search they found six wrecked planes that were from past crashes never discovered? That is the definition if boonies.

Robert if you are a good, calm pack leader Joshua will be a happy obedient member of your pack. Good advice Crissa. I don't mean to sound harsh or like I am against Pits. The pits I have known have all been sweet dogs. i am against the people that poorly breed them and train them to be mean. My sister recently adopted a "lab mix" from the shelter near her. It has a black spotted tongue curled tail and pit features. I said it was a Akita or Chow mixed with pit Bull. The vet agreed with that. She is a nice dog so far but with a few adjustment problems and no idea what the word come means.

Keeping pit bulls are illegal here in the UK, mainly because they can turn bad really fast with the slightest provocation. There was a case recently where a dog had got scared by some fireworks and killed a young girl.

I'm all for dogs being kept by owners that should keep certain breeds of dogs as long as they can cater to their pets personalities and needs, but much of the time, people buy dogs like they buy cars, for their colour, speed, and size.

they both spent the night in the same dog crate getting to know each other. Although, Dora spent most of the night in her little bed (she has a cat cube with a hole as a bed).

One last bit of dog advice, and again this is friendly advice. i don't want to sound like a know it all, a meddler, or an a$S. Get rid of the crate. Although many people use them and some consider it a good way to raise a dog There is no need for them and although a dog will accept it as it's place it is not a happy place for a dog. If you must do the crate thing get two immediately. Forcing them to sleep in one goes against everything instincts tells a dog is right. It will quickly put a competitive wedge between the pups not make them friends. Crates work due to a dogs pack mentality. They are always competing for a space up the pecking order. Given a crate they accept it as their place although instincts tells them wherever you,or anyone up the hierarchy, likes to be is the spot to strive for. Putting another, especially new, pup in with them says you loose your spot you have accepted, you need to fight to get it back or it says give up you loose even the one spot you have begrudgingly accepted as yours. Make them part of the family(pack) but make sure you are the alpha dog(pack leader) and they will be much happier better adjusted dogs.

Yup, I agree. Jinx is a lab mix. The problem is when some genius plans the mixing with two dogs already full of bad traits:rolleyes:. I love mixes but they are unpredictable as whether or not it is a good mix up. I would only get a pure bred if I need the trait they were bred for. For example if I needed a specialized hunting dog like a retriever or a pointer. And if this was the case I would drop the big bucks on a dog with impeccable, traceable, lineage not the $200 puppy mill pure bred.

Sound advice Zack...again thanks; always welcome for me. Joshua and Dora slept in the crate, but the door was left open ;). Actually, Dora already has her own room (utility room) where she sleeps and we put Joshua in my room last night so he could be next to the door to know that he has to outside for potty breaks. Only temporary arrangements until I can fully trust Joshua to roam around the house with out marking territory like he did this morning. Now about the pecking order...Dora knows that she is my wife's first and Joshua knows he is mine:lol:....only kidding. Both of them understand their place already. Dora knows that she must do what we tell her to do; 'outside', 'go to your room', 'go potty'...etc. Joshua has gotten 'outside' and 'potty' rather quickly as that lady from before 'Karen' must've trained him that way for his first 4 months of life. When we can determine where Joshua will permenantly be, that is when we will teach him 'go to your room'.

As a single person I always - ALWAYS have slept on the LEFT side of the bed because I primarily sleep on my left side and I prefer to be facing out of the bed. Since I have been married the only time I've gotten to sleep on the left side of the bed is when Mike is travelling. I still consider it my side, but when he is here, I let him use it. ;)

It should be good shooting especially if the fringe element of the fringe element decides to get uppity. I will have gas mask on hand just in case. T.D. Great shots, your fair had way cooler rides for long exposure than ours and better set up to get some great angles. Never thought to take a long exposure on the pick-a-duck, that is a very cool shot as well as the sunset behind the sky lift. I really like the Brown Swiss with the hanging petunias over her head. The balloon shots are just fabulous I'm envious you had the opportunity and even more envious of the great shots you got. Finally, I like the whale of an Orca tail.

Thanks Becky!

You'll have to see Puddle's long exposure on the duckies. His is way better than mine. He really caught the blur nicely.

I had a ball at the fair this year. The best part was watching Puddle's excitement with the long exposures. He's always showing me how to do new stuff, it was really cool to be able to show this to him.

Thanks again for checking out my shots.

I am so excited to see Cat's!

OFFICIALY ON VACATION!!!!

Yay for me winning a competion.

Yay Pete, that is a gorgeous shot great use of back lighting.

II do know in horses we assist with stuck babies.

Cows too, it may sound/look horrible, but come-a-longs are a standard OB instrument on the dairy farm. And I've never even seen a red mark from using one on the calves legs.

Cat I hope things work out for your sister and her dog.

Might the flatties want another trip?

Might there be room for more flatties?

Fortunately the more you "mix up" a breed the less in-bred qualities you get.

Hybrid vigor, sometimes it is better sometimes not. I do know that there are some good breeds that have had their brains bred out of them all in the name of conformation.

Make them part of the family(pack) but make sure you are the alpha dog(pack leader) and they will be much happier better adjusted dogs.

Zane aka Glow-Boy aka "Dog Whisperer"?;)

On the flip side they are the ones that are interesting to shoot. It is a great venue to practice photo journalism.

She doesn't think there are any more in there. Motley is up and running around, and acting normal, my sister felt all over, and said it doesn't feel like there are any more pups.

She thinks that maybe Motley had gone somewhere else and delivered the other puppies, and this stuck puppy was the last of the litter, instead of the first one, like she thought.

At any rate, Motley shouldn't have been having pups at all, so none of the puppies probably would have survived anyway. :(

Not real kid friendly but not a bad learning experience for a 12+ year old. It is pretty neat that we as a people have access to our government, no matter how flawed, like we do. I imagine there will be some attempts to breach capitol security and a few real arrests. Most people don't realize it but now days when you see, on the news, a group marching and then getting arrested it is all orchestrated. The organizers will tell the police they plan on breaching the police line and laying in the street. The police say fine how many will be arrested. The organizers tell the media they are doing an act of civil disobedience and thats what you see on the evening news. At the same time there is always some rebels trying to break stuff and vandalize. They scratched a bunch of crap in the marble of the capitol last time.

The one pictured I don't remember who it is. Tomorrows is put on by a group called Answer. The larger demonstrations tend to draw every group with a cause. The communist party will show, the black panthers, the animal righters, the libertarians, the anti abortionists, the counter protesters, also the anarchists make a large showing and cause most the trouble. I don't mean to portrait any of those groups in a bad light but only mean to say they are regulars. Jessie Jackson will show up if he thinks he can get on T.V. They actually used a Polaroid camera to document arrestees in the second pic? You would at least think a digital p&s..
Ah yes, some things are slow to change in a bureaucracy. They also still use an analog radio system:rolleyes:. I guess you can just staple the Polaroid to the report. To take a digital it would require a salaried person in charge of downloading and printing the image. This could bring up chain of command issues with the photographic images that went to court. In other words a defense lawyer could subpoena the picture printer person to testify in court. That said many jurisdictions including my local police use digital. Anything done on a federal level or in D.C. is done like a huge bureaucracy.
