Aristotle is a germ, he lives in a human nostril (his one) and travels over to the other one. It is hysterical. We've read one other book by the same author called Toad Rage. Also hysterical.

Yes it is and thank you. I never read the book and only vaguely remember the movie. I remember seeing the horse that played the part a few times at the International horse show back in the '70's. It had a white blaze on its face that they blacked for the movie.

In the late 1800's, in the Appalacian Mountains, Coal Mining was king. It wouldn't be uncommon to find three or four generations of men all working in the same mine. As the demand for coal increased, the depths of the mines decreased. Farther and farther into the Earth's crust men would carve out the precious black carbon chunks. Unfortunately, as they increased the depth of the mine, they also decreased the amount of oxygen to be found. Many miners were killed by asphyxiation because they went farther than the air could go. It wasn't just the lack of oxygen, but the presence of gasses, carbon monoxide, sulpher based gasses, etc would cause serious damage to the pulmonary system. This brought about the need to bring the Canary. A small bird, cheaply purchased, would go with the miners when they would go to the deepest regions of the mines. If the Canary should suddenly fall over dead, the miners would immediately evacuate. The Canary then would become the most important tool to the miner.
Sometimes, before the day would begin, or the next shift would descend into the mine, they would send down a caged Canary to the depth where they would be working. If they brought the Canary back up, and it was dead, they would not go down until the shaft was ventilated. This worked wonders for the vertical shafts, but what of the horizontal reaches? Those courses that would run from the main shaft; how would one check those?
In 1905, Fladigan MacLather invented the Canary Fling. Using a simple contrivance of wood and rubber tubing, much like a sligshot, the shift-boss would place a Canary into the pocket of the Fling and shoot the Canary down the course. The Canary, with a small bit of twine tied to one of its legs, would go sailing down the length of the course. The Canary would eventually land, and the shift-boss would reel back in the Canary. If the Canary was dead, then the course wouldn't be clear. If the Canary lived, then the shift-boss would simply move down the course to where the Canary landed the first time, and go through the same procedure.
The Fladigan MacLather Canary Fling became quite a hit. It sold wildly at the county fairs throughout West Virginia and Pennsylvania for twenty years. Fladigan became insanely rich. For awhile, the Canary Fling became a household game, replacing pinocle as the number one game. One could see families playing with the Canary Fling on Sunday afternoons.
Around 1923, in the midst of the Prohibition, when cooler heads prevailed, a group of sober minded individuals rose up for the rights of the Canary, and the Faldigan MacLather Canary Fling became a pariah. Overnight, the "Fling" was seen as brutal and unseemly.
That is until Mathicur Dondellous, a Romanian immigrant, came out with the Fabulous Dondellous Coconut Fling in 1925.
Interestingly enough, the Fablulous Dondellous Coconut Fling was used as artillery in the Spanish Civil War, and the "New Fling" lost its innocent playful edge, just like the Original Fladigan MacLather Canary Fling did previously.
Just thought you would want to know some interesting history.

Okay here I present myself in a ridiculous situation for your entertainment. This video was me early in my riding career and I look horrible!!! Anyone who rides please don't look at this. In the video I am in a lesson with a relatively fresh tear in my shoulder cartilage. I am riding a 3 year old green horse who has worn me down to a sloppy sack of potatoes on his back. I flop forward and he recognizes my total vulnerability and tosses me. This was the first horse I owned named Ransom. he was named this because his dad was named kidnapped. We lost him to a fatal colic a few years ago. He made me a fearless rider because every horse after him has been a breeze comparatively. Enjoy:oops: Leyla cannot watch this without fits of laughter.

Here Lonnie, these always make me smile :) Hubby and son doing what boys do best *snicker*
Has he ever landed on him while practising?
Dyslexia is the most probable cause, but the course of management is intensive phonics, so we're ok either way. Loved Notes From a Small Island. I was living in England when I read it and laughed out loud MANY times. :D
He's a wonderful writer... everything he writes is so funny...
WThere was a point in their education when teachers were only going to give the kids books they felt the kids were capable of reading so as not to discourage them because of the difficulty of the material. I was livid. I didn't want my kids to become static, but to be challenged. So, while the school persisted on giving them pablum for reading, at home, we gave them Shakespeare and Redwall. Dumb school.
I've had run ins at school with the teachers, my son has come home from school in tears because he teachers won't beleive he has read as much as he has... They had some kind of game witha point system set up to enourage the children to read, they were accusinghim of cheating... I have finally convinced himto read "for himself" and screw the teachers and his classmates... I went into school and told his teacher he would no longer be participating in the "game" and if she ever called my son a liar again, I'd be back... and we would have serious words....
For now, we do audio books. Matthew and Nathan are both avid story addicts. We just finished "Aristotle's Nostril" and have begun listening to "The Lightening Theif".

There was a 6 hour break? God Bless Pekka for doing it while I wasn't here. I would have LOST MY MIND.

But such is life... and yet the sun still manages to rise... so put on your shades - it's going to be a beautiful day out there
It's supposed to be over 100 again here. I'd hardly consider that a beautiful day. I'll probably just stay inside all day with the air conditioner running full blast...
So how many lost their mind during this small 6 hour break? :D
Not me. I actually got some sleep for a change.

Most was not camera stuff. I needed new dressy clothes for church, so I finally shopped. And the kid needed some school accessories. I put some camera stuff in my cart but haven't bought yet. Two books on indoor photography/portraits, a flash diffuser thingie, and a bracket. Minor items. I'm thinking of getting a home studio package but don't really want to shell out $400.

Working in a cube farm would drive me crazy! I could never do that, even if my coworkers were quiet...
Where I work, we just recently implemented a fancy time-clock kinda thing. I've been working since the late 70's. This is the first time I've ever had to clock in and out, and it's driving me nuts! I'm so not used to it, I keep forgetting to do it.

The URL is the same. It just takes a day or two for the new IP address to get updated in the various DNS servers throughout the world. So, until your ISP updates their DNS server to point to the new location, you have to use the IP address yourself.
Does that make any sense?
