At the puppet show today this lady comes up to me and starts asking if I have that new $700.00 canon camera, I said no, but one similar to it, she asked for the model number so I said 30D. Then she goes "is that a telephonic lens?" I smiled as pleasant as could be and said "yep, sure is!" lol!

Fix Or Repair Daily:lol: Don't get me wrong I own a Chevy now but have owned many fords I was happy with.

I love the old ford emblem and I think the shot is decent. It is well exposed with pretty good control of the high lights on the shiny parts. It is a bit boring though. I don't have a good enough eye to tell you what it needs but it needs something IMO. maybe a different crop so the lines are not so symmetrical? Maybe something to give it more context, like a tail light? I don't know. Also some of the reflections in the paint and chrome are distracting.

Points well taken, thanks. Reflections couldn't be helped as it was at a "show." I was very please with the exposure of all the shots today with the 30D. Take a look at this one:

http://www.24zero.com/hotrods/072807/Ford-001-pst.jpg

The focal point was the emblem. That may have been a bad idea. You guys/gals tell me. The DOF may not be shallow enough on the front of the truck, I have not decided.

short5

Thanks Zane, trouble with this show was there were only one or two things on a large stage at once, so most shots are singular, not aways the best but it is what I had to wrk with.

As this evening's concert was two guys on stage with guitars...well that's all they did all night was stand in the same spots so I took some shots, took a few more then left!

What version is that? I can't imagine doing the Sunday morning Scripture reading in that..... I'd probably be the one to do it, tho'. ;)

ABove hey does anyone else find that number 2 dangling from here distracting ? ..

I've found that I'm losing sleep over it. Not really, but I'm losing sleep over something, and this was convenient.

This is what happens when we get a butt load of rain really fast in St George.

For some reason, seeing dirty, brown water running through your streets with the label, "Butt Load of rain" really got me laughing in a Junior High/Beavis and Butthead kind of way.

If you look close on the left side, up closer to the firetruck, you can see a bunch of teen guys. They are skimboarding.

What fun!! You desert folk know how to party in a flood!

... unless I move to Oregon ..I:ll have to check and see if Dan and lisa would consider adopting me with new glasses in the mix ..lol

Awww, c'mon over, Deb. We've got some chores for you to do.... ;)

Lovin' your shots, Pete. You should "work" at home more often.

Nice thing about the Hawaiian language is, they don't have many letters, so the words tend to be spelled phonetically using our alphabet...

When in doubt over a Polynesian language, throw in as many vowels as you can imagine. Then end it with a "-ua".

Allie is on her first paper.

That, my friend, is the magical question. It's tough for one to steer others toward a lens without first knowing what kind of photography they like. What style of photography do you like? Landscape? Portrait? Wildlife? Macro?

i like them all....not too much wildlife though...i'll list in importance

1. I usually take portraits for my family (sometimes I need tthe extra reach - sometimes I wish it was wider) (need a flash real bad though)

2. Macro.....but I dont have a tripod and its pretty hard to get a half decent shot without one (tubes for my nifty)

3. Landscape.....again need a tripod and wider lens (most of the time)

With this one, and the others that you mentioned, may I suggest the Tamron 28-75. (http://www.amazon.com/Tamron-Autofocus-28-75mm-Aspherical-Cameras/dp/B0000A1G05/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/105-9620157-0669256?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1185686070&sr=8-1) It being an f/2.8, it is very nice in low light situations, has the zoom range that would suit your current style and is a very nice lens for the $$. I have one, and so do others on this thread. I've yet to hear an unkind word about its performance. Just my 2¢ worth.

+1 :D I have this lens and I love it and use it a lot. My 2¢. :)

I've got both. Love 'em both. In fact, used both today in my trip to the coast. The shots I just posted were with the 28-75. The 17-50 is pretty wide, but the 28-75, IMWO, makes a better all around lens.

you know what...if its a split decision that means they are pretty close and the 28-75 has the versatility and costs less than the 17-50.

im pretty much sold on the 28-75 now but with one question:

AF.....whats the difference between their speed, accuracy, and sound?

Thanks, Folks.

AF.....whats the difference between their speed, accuracy, and sound?

You're not going to use the 28-75 for sports.... the AF is accurate, but a bit slow. I've got some pretty fast focusing lenses, and this Tammy isn't among them. Is it painfully slow? Heck no. Does it lock? Yes, consistently. It's not an L. And it doesn't have Canon's USM. Having said that, it's still not loud. I've had Canon lenses that were MUCH louder than my Tammys. Specifically, my Old 100mm Macro and the "Buzzsaw" 35mm f/2. However, again, you're not going to use this lens for fast sports or for sensitive work where silence is the key. I've found that the shots from this lens to be way above satisfactory and do not hesitate in suggesting it to others. Again, it's my near worthless opinion that both the Tamron 17-50 and the 28-75 are two of the best lenses for the money for this range. Most Bang for the Buck, so to speak.

Really, you don't want to hear my sermons.

I can't believe they did an entire Bible in lolcat. That's too funny. Was it a whole version, or just a gag and they did just Gen 1?

I used to have a Bible that was written in Pidgin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pidgin). It took awhile, but then it was easy to read. Kind of a hoot, really.

I'm guessing it was just that one page. But, I don't really know that. I found the link for that photo in a Usenet newsgroup this morning, but I don't know who created it.

Hey Everybody, WOW! a new thread and everything. It's been a while, but I haven't had a chance to get on. I had to make a trip to Japan, that's where I am now. I haven't had chance to get to a computer with internet access. The work computers here have filters on them, and this is place considered Chat. So I can't sign on to it.

Japan is very nice, this is my first trip here. I'll get some pictures up when I get a chance. I finally got my laptop to sign on in the hotel with a lot of help from their tech guys. I'm still not sure what the problem was there, other than it is expensive to use their internet here.

I'll try to keep up a little better, but here is one to keep you in the loop. I hope it looks ok, 'cause I'm processing on my laptop. This is a Temple that one of the local guys took me to in an area called Nikko. It is the temple of the first Shogun of Japan. At least that's what he told me.
