I'm sure you could.... That's a pretty light hungry set up, tho'. The last thing you want with a moon shot is a long exposure. I mean, I know that you're good at panning, but I think the moon might be a bit out of the question.... even for you, Jamie! :D

Yeah I know what you mean about the feel. They are more like Nifty than an L. I am like you and hard on my stuff but take care of it all at the same time. I am a bit more cautious when I change these out. They seem to be a little tighter than a regular lens. Or maybe I should say not as smooth to put on and off the camera. Does that make sense?

Our cameras are designed to focus on objects that have contrast. If something has enough contrast, the onboard software will catch it and focus. Obviously, white on black or black on white is the best. But if you do two shades that are close, the camera may not "see" them, and focus on something behind it that it can "see". The spider might not have enough contrast to catch the camera's eye.

Now, that's only if you used AF.

If you manually focused, that's a different story, and it just might be because you, the spider or both moved out of focus.

I knew that in the back of my head but did not think about it. I was using the BRICK and no tripod so it could have been me moving. The last spider like this one I shot I used the gorillia pod and it was more brown than this one and I used the 17-40. Maybe tomorrow I will try this one again with the 17-40 and the 36 tube instead of the BRICK and the 20.

I am no moon expert but unless you are trying to get a super close up I have seen a lot of nice detailed moon shots with the 70-200 range lenses.

the 70-200 f/4 would work just fine! I was referring to the fact that each TC you add to the lens also "stops" down the lens. So, if you start with a 70-200 f/4, then slap on a 2x TC, you've converted the lens to a 140-400 f/8 lens. Thus making it really light hungry equating to a longer shutter speed to get the exposure. Personally, I'd just use the 70-200 f/4 alone and crop later, but I don't know what I'm doing, so feel free to ignore me without shame!

Yeah I want to get a close up shot. Of course you loose AF with the 2x TC which is one reason that I only got the 1.4 TC to begin with. But family always wants to know what I want for Christmas, so I thought that I would put that on my list. That way I have it with out spending my cash. But I just wonder how close up I can get.

f/8.0 really. I did not realize that. I knew that the 1.4 made it f/5.6 but I did not know that the 2x made it f/8.0. so then with both it would be f/11.2 WOW.

Probably not. I have done some reading (the article about the Lunar eclipse specifically), and the moon is directly lighted by the sun so it can easily be over exposed. That is what has been my problem with the shots I have tried so far. Well that and the fact that I wait too late in the day to shoot. And we do have to remember the it is moving so a long shutter speed is not going to make for a sharp photo.

The sunny 16 rule applies for those moon shots. I can't recall what my settings were.

I'm having severe TR withdrawals and nightmares of cows lost in space.

Lonnie, how's the cat doing? It had better not ruin your Colorado trip.

I still haven't taken the cat to the vet. Honestly, even though I'm sure it's Tupper, I don't really have any proof. I need to separate the two cats for a while and see.

I've been feeling so listless lately, though. I just don't even want to travel anywhere. I don't know what's wrong with me. This isn't a normal attitude for me...

I set up my video camera to capture the cat culprit when I had that problem. I discovered that one cat was peeing on wall/carpet, then another cat was peeing on top of it a bit later. I isolated the first cat and problem was solved, but I could never break her of the habit and had to let her go live on a farm. (and she lived happily ever after)

Lonnie, maybe forcing yourself to go somewhere new or slightly new will break the feeling?

I've been wondering if they might both be doing it. I even suspected Ashley of participating for a while, but I've eliminated her as a possibility. Anyway, I don't have a video camera, so that idea won't work for me.

Could you rent one for a week? I was positive it was one cat doing it, and then it was a cat I totally didn't suspect. My situation involved a move and adding more cats to the household at the same time. A very stupid thing to do, but I didn't know better back then. I think there was a lot of marking of territory going on. Not sure what has your cat(s) so upset. My vet suggested boarding my cats for a while, to get them separated and calm them down and let the house dry out, then when they get back they are so glad to be home they behave. I couldn't do it because I had six cats at the time.

I don't even know where I'd go to rent a video camera. I'll probably end up just taking Tupper (and maybe Crystal too) to the vet. They haven't had checkups in years anyway. I love these little guys, but I really think the two cats and dog I have now will be my last pets. When they're gone, that's it for me.

Yeah, you probably should have them checked out. I did that with my cats and even tried operating on the cat that was the problem. The vet said that with female cats sometimes their ovaries grow back if a bit of tissue was left from the spaying operation, and that could give her hormones making her territorial. Sounded weird, but I gave it a try.

I feel the same way you do about pets. I love my cats SO much, but it is a lot of stress and they grow old so fast. But I have a little kid so we'll probably end up with a dog or cat in the future. From the pound, I don't want to put up with a puppy or kitten, I don't think.

G'MAE all, what a week, been trying to catch up for days. Would get through 5 - 10 pages in the evenings before my eyelids would start slamming shut. Perseverence this morning finally got me through all the missed pages.

Great bugs, back-lit flowers, and days of yore.

Permie you look great in mahagony.

Deb good to see you. Sounds like you are having a marvelous time. When is the wedding?

Zane I've been rough with my tubes and they have taken the abuse like troopers.

Jim didn't realize your property is in Oregon. Take it easy on Puds, will you, he is in that delicate state you know...expectant Father-in-law.

Good seeing you all, life is still hectic, must run as there is company coming for dinner, groceries to buy and house to clean.

Big news, Curt set up a Smugbug account to use for all the church photos we have been shooting. I'm hoping this will lead to our own account as well, I like the slide show feature in these kinds of hosting spaces. I"ll be learning how to post my pics from this week there, probably tomorrow.

The Target phase. Clothing type stuff other than the uniforms: gym shoes, gym bag, undies, socks (got the wrong size ), backpack, lunch box, and some school supplies I couldn't find at the other store, like Fiskar scissors. Yeah, she needs a "gym bag with long string for hanging". Our list was on the school website. If they change it, then it should be fairly easy to grab something different and what we bought will always be used with Miss Artist around.

Where I live, there's not a lot of traffic. Rush hour consists of four cars at the stop light. Sometimes we have to wait for a John Deere tractor to make its way down the highway causing motorists to be delayed for up to two or three minutes. I say this because one of the things I really miss with vehicular congestion is reading bumper stickers. There are some really good ones out there. "Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup" is a good one. "Don't blame me, I voted for Spock" caught my eye.

Then there are those really deep philosophical bumper stickers that make you think. Then there are the ones that are so deep, no one really knows what the heck they mean.

Case in point. I was waiting for a whole minute during rush hour for the light to change. Right around the 45 second mark, I noticed that the Volvo in front of me had a bumper sticker that said, "We All Live Downstream".

I can see the guy that first said that. Standing before a bunch of other people of like minds, he said with all the wisdom in his voice, "For we all live downstream." And everyone within earshot would nod knowingly. They would look at each other and say, "Wow. That was deep. That spoke to me. Think about it, we all live downstream." The other person would also nod and say, "Wow. You're right. Let us never forget that." You ever think that? That people hear these really cool statements, and because they think that it's something deep and meaningful, they will embrace it even though they have no idea what it means.

Then there would be me. Somewhere in the back, wondering when they were going to serve lunch, and I would say, "What? Huh? What's that supposed to mean? We don't all live downstream! That's silly! What about the guy that lives on top of the hill? He's downstream from Nobody! Hey, I may be downstream from some folks, but I'm going to make DARN sure that I'm not downstream from YOU. Bwahahahaha!"

Then I would be thrown out of the room with no lunch and be told that I could not come back until I can fathom the meaning of "downstream".

For an experiment, I put a message in a bottle, sealed it up tight and sent it down the current of a small stream. The message was simple, "Hey, everybody. Do you all really live downstream? If so, contact me at... " and I put my email address.

Just so that you know, not everybody lives downstream, but there are some Oregon Fish and Wildlife cops that live down there that don't like litter.
