Thanks for the comment son the airshow shots - I'm still processing more.

GMAE, all.

Jamie, I like your new avatar.

edit: thanks to whoever posted the book link. I will buy a copy this week. :)

second edit: what XHD did I hear people raving about lately? My photos have reached critical mass and I need an XHD for my work computer. thx in advance.

how about neither ? is that a good answer.

I have always thought that those that show a picture of themseleves as an avatar are self important.

I could be wrong tho.
A response I did not expect, but respect.
You know your right, it could say a lot about me. But at the end of the day I am not too worried. I am who I am and I will voice my opion. if people don't like it or like my view then that's ok too.

I don't expect people to like every thing that I say, nor do I expect people to think that I am right. (after all I am male and all females will say that we are always wrong  ) But it's a view and that's my view. I would expect people to respect the view as I would theirs.

but you know it's only a comment. I have dealt with Jamie once or twice and he seems ok. Never meet that man of course. Never been out of the country. would you rather I keep quite?
No problems with me. No offense taken. I asked for an opinion and you gave it. I have a rule, if you ask me I will tell you. Therefore I must abide by my own rule. And since you were not rude no harm no foul.
I think the first. The second is lost when it is small.

Could be. I like a face to put to a person I talk to. Simply posting ones image is not self important in my mind.
I think I will stick with the first one for a while. I agree the second one does get lost. I too like seeing who I am talking to. But if people do not want to use their photos as avatars that is cool as well. I just find it nice to put a face to a name.
 who?

I like the first one too Jamie. :)

Well I could tell you but then I might have to kill you or well I might get drowned. & Thanks.

My friends have a house that they let their friends stay in, it is gorgeous. Lakeside on a cliff with tiered decks in an upscale connecticut town, we go for a week every summer by ourselves and an occasional weekend day or overnight with them. they have mentioned wanting to have a guest book for their visitors to write down notes about their stay and I want to make one for them with photos of the house and area. I could leave a pen as well for folks to use, but I don't want the ink to smudge too much, was wondering about paper options.

Well I was going to suggest that you do a 160 page Blurb Book. You could shoot 75 pages of photos and one page to the left or right could be blank for writing. As long as people right with a decent BALL POINT pen the paper should not smudge. (can't use gel pens). If you decide you want to do that and need some help I will be glad to assist you. I have done one book and have this years started.

how close do you have to get with the 70-200 when the tubes are on?

Well, I don't think I know what I'm doing. Because when I try to use the 100-200 range its all blurry and I can't get a focus. Maybe I am too close when I try to do that. I checked exif and this was at 125mm, and I was probably a foot away.

thomascanty

How'd you do that, Lonnie?

Jon told me about the archives link at the bottom of the page. I had a pretty good idea of the time frame (there is no search available in the archives), so I just started poking around in there. I knew it had something to do with the 10D, so I concentrated mostly on the threads with "10D" in the title.

Skrim17

I'll have to try the tubes on mine. Is the 125mm accurate if you had tubes on?

What I found with my 70-200 + tubes was that you focus with the zoom... So you might be 1.2 feet away from your subject, you just zoom back and forth and it will come into focus but the size will stay darn close to the same.

I have no idea, lol. Just giving you an idea of how I was shooting. I would start at the 70mm end and zoom until I got a focus.

You all know how I feel about shooting weddings. Gak.

My dearest friend in the world asked me to shoot her daughters wedding.
She has no money. She told me how much Shelly (her daughter and basically Shelly is more niece to me than just a friends daughter) was hoping I would do it. *sigh* What could I do? I am well and truly stuck. Looks like I'm shooting a wedding. Emotional blackmail wins out every time.

If you don't want to do it just tell her no. and yes I know that is easy for me to say sitting in Alabama on the other side of my moniter. If you guys remember I mentioned that our Graphics Designer wanted me to do her outdoor wedding. I told her no. (I just hope it stuck) But if you do it just make sure that she understands that this is not your cup of tea and that you do not want her to be mad at you if you do not produce what she expects (not saying that you can't). I just don't want you do loose a friend over it.

LOL...Lonnie, as soon as Jon told you about that, I spent the next hour finding mine, only to be told I could have found it in search instead

Hahaha, I saw that.  I'll bet you had just as much fun in your search as I did, though...

But... To anyone else looking for their first post in the forum... If you joined POTN *after* December 2004, just use the search function (as Jon explained in RRTP). You only need to dive into the archives and look manually if you were here long before that... ;)

My other phone (the one I use in Thailand) connects to the computer with a wire and has a memory card inside that I can put stuff on.

The phone I have here seems to connect via bluetooth - but HOW? I have a photo on the phone that I would like to move to my computer, but NO CLUE how to make that happen...

help? :)

You have two options here.

1) If you have a laptop that's bluetooth enabled, you can send it with bluetooth.

2) Get a data cable for your new phone and do it the way that you know.

3) Bluetooth the picture to another phone who's owner has a data cable.

4) Take it to a print shot and ask them to download it for you and put it on a usb flash disk.

5) an option I've not thought about yet.

Ok, there's more than 2 options....

Athena
7th of August 2007 (Tue), 15:39
Pete - your options made me smile. :)

There doesn't seem to be a cable option with this phone. It's not very fancy. Bluetooth is the only way to go, so I am downloading something called PC Suite. I guess I need that software to talk to the phone?? I tried to "find" the computer (bluetooth enabled) with the phone without the software and it failed (miserably).

On a very different note, as I am typing this I can hear Nathan singing/composing a song in the dinning area. I SO wish I could be recording it! He cracks me up. :D

Athena

I think I was wrong - there is a cable option, but it has a very different connector to the one my other phone uses  Maybe it's FANCIER rather than "not very fancy". I am not feeling rather OLD.

You can also see if you can find a bluetooth adaptor for you current pc. My 2nd cellphone had blue tooth and the cable was something else to buy. it was cheaper to buy a generic bluetooth adaptor than buy the one from the manufacture.

I have got a motorola razer at the moment and it takes a stand usb cable to connect it to the pc, which is good cause it's the same type of cable one can use to connect the camera to the PC.

K1m is what it says under the cover. She said it is a "krazor". I have a LG vx8300 I just got which I am happy with. It was free with renewal of service. I am hard on phones and they are designed to break so you sign up for more service to get the phone discount. I get the relatively cheap ones because even the expensive ones are obsolete by the time they are released. Don't start me on my cell phone service is a shell game and my planned obsolescences rant.

I love it. the only problem I have is dust inside the screen, but I know of 2 other people that have it and they don't have a problem. I like the fact that it's light, a nice square shape too. it doesn't have any thing like ariels or anything coming out of it, which I like. it's also a sold phone, it doesn't fee like plastic.

when I got the phone, i got the software and the cable to connect it to the PC. which is great case I don't have to go out and buy anything else.

that's right about the battery life. when using it as a phone it doesn't last that long, but then I got the orignal ones. not to sure what the rest are like.

once you have got the cable etc I just plug it in to the PC and that charges the phone too.
