LOL... yes, it is easier to do it that way, and I did for a long time, till I got sick of the nastiness of it all. In order for her not to spit it out, I had to jam it WAY down her throat, turning my fist into a sopping slimy grody mass of goo.
The wet food is easier. On me and her.

where is everybody?

Athena

Look what I found:

Noise

A noise ordinance applies to all areas of the city. It applies to the sound generated within an apartment or single property, as well as to amplified stereo sound in automobiles. It applies to indoor and outdoor sound. It also applies to animals that, by habitually howling, barking, or crying, disturb nearby residents. Anyone who wants to exceed the allowed decibel level must apply for a permit. The use of outdoor sound amplifying equipment requires a separate "Outdoor Amplified Sound Permit" issued by the Police Department. Violation of the Noise Ordinance will result in a $100 citation.

now...who rememers how to hard boil eggs? lol

Athena
11th of August 2007 (Sat), 21:24
Directions for Large Eggs:
1. Place eggs in a saucepan with enough COLD tap water to cover completely by 1 inch. Bring to a ROLLING boil over HIGH heat. Once the water is brought to a rolling boil, PROMPTLY reduce heat to a lower medium boil and cook an additional 10 minutes for a “hard boiled” egg. For a “soft boiled” egg reduce the time by a few minutes.

2. Remove from heat and IMMEDIATELY place eggs under ice cold water or in a bowl of ICED water to chill promptly to help yolks stay bright yellow. Chill for a few minutes in the cold water until the egg is completely cooled. This is an extremely important step which prevents the greenish “ring” from forming on the surface of the yolk over time. If the egg is not chilled immediately after cooking an unsightly dark greenish ring will eventually appear on the outside of the yolk.

3. To peel...crack on all sides, roll egg between hands to loosen shell, and remove shell. Enjoy, with a light sprinkling of salt if desired.

My biggest (and only actually) complaint is the noise that comes from the carwash close to my neighborhood. It is SO loud that I have to turn my TV up, speak louder etc. when some idiot is over there. It happens at least 5 times a day, often more. :( Just tonight alone it's happened three times (NOW EVEN!).

Okay here goes:

Dear [insert name here]

I wish to express my concern over a violation of the city's noise ordinance. My home is located near [insert name of business] and several times a day my home is disrupted due to the extremely loud music coming from their customers vehicles.
On average my home is disrupted five times daily by the customers of [business name]. (It would be a good idea to list the times if you recall them from today).
Thank you in advance for any help you are able to give me.
Best regards,

Anybody else have input?

Athena, I would contact the owner as well. Ideally a letter from a lawyer stating their business is out of compliance with the law. They will argue they are not making noise but the patrons cars are. A judge ultimately would have to decide but the letter may at least get some signs up not that will stop rude people.

I think it is a chain. It took Mike several calls to get to someone he could complain to about the spotlight they have shining into our back yard. He had to speak unkindly to one of the guys just to get them to the point that they agreed to move the light - but only the next time the bulb has to be chainged!

The lawyer letter would likely cost me a couple hundred bucks though, right?

It's really awful. We have plantation blinds and the light comes through enough that I am considering buying curtains for the boys room.

I had lots of evil slingshot thoughts about that light, but honestly I am beginning to think that having my back yard illuminated might be a good thing considering the patrons over there...

Ah - is that the candy package? :D

Yep. Should be here any day now, I think.

Try this very same technique but add a little push to the pill to shove it down a bit farther before holding his mouth closed waiting for the gulp. Works well with cats. Sounds awful I know, but it's how the vet taught me to do it. :)

That's pretty much exactly what I just did with his evening pill. Took all of about 5 seconds. I think I have it all figured out now... :D

Ok, trivial question. How come the time of a post does not show up for me any more, just how long ago it was posted. Is this a forum setting, or something I can set, though I can't figure out how.

That changed with the switch to the new server. I don't think we can do anything as far as setting.

Yep. It's a forum software change that Pekka needs to redo after the upgrade. He'll get to it eventually. It just isn't a very high priority for him at the moment.

I saw the meteor showers in 2003 and 2005. In 2003, I was at the Grand View Campground in the White Mountains. Hundreds of miles and thousands of feet in elevation away from the nearest major city. That campground is a haven for amateur stargazers. Even on just a normal night, it's amazing how many stars you can see in the sky from there. The sky is full of 'em!

In 2005, I was camped out by Cottonwood Lake 4 in the John Muir Wilderness, near Mount Langley. That's even more remote. I had a great view of the meteors.

I gotta do that again next year!

to adjust Iso I push two buttons on the top at left with my left hand and spin the top dial with the right. The same for the drive mode. GMAE all. Just a little catch-up before I head to the store.

Silly mommies, pull it out while they are asleep!! Eli doesn't even wake up :)

Hmm, you might got sumtin der.

Brain shine: buy her a small voice recorder to play with. Not a toy one - one of those little dictate thingies (toys are NO fun - real stuff is fun). But don't let her have free access to it. Keep it hidden away in your OWN stuff and only give it to her to enjoy when you need a break from her. :D

That might work, but only if I told her I'd take it away if she bugged me. Thanks for thinking.

Blue = read
Orange = unread ;)

I never noticed that before!

Bet that is a two syllable Mom too.:D Instead of one.

Oh yeah! When she was 4 and started karate, I explained the kiai (spirit yell) by telling her it was just like she yelled for me only it was "HIIIII-YAAAA", not MOOOOO-OOOOOOOOM!

I just got back from the summer concert, tonight was an AWESOME jazz concert featuring Gerry Niewood (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=48110910) it was awesome!

My niece Anna is visiting from Mass. she came with and is sleeping over tonight. She was 8 on Friday!

cool pics all around, Crissa. I think people are your thing to shoot. Definitely not mine, lol. I hate people in my photos. Wow, now they put braces on 8 year olds??

I have to keep reminding myself to not get angry at him for being who he is, sometimes its hard tho.

I so hear that.

why my kid takes the pillow case covers off I'll never know, its a sickness! Last time I babysat for Tommy I went up to check on him and he was inside the pillow case cover like a sleeping bag, perhaps its something in the genes...

Thanks for sharing, its nice knowing other kids have their quirks. ;) Sometimes I think mine is the only one.

Mornin' Wanda! I really do like shooting people, I have arranged to do a few free shoots with friends and family to set up a smuggy account and start charging for portraits.

My nieces teeth were literally coming in sideways, once a kid has 4 permanent teeth fully grown in they will put braces if it is necessary. Eli will need a palate splitter as soon as his bottom teeth come in all the way, they overlap. In the front where his two fron teeth are coming in he lost 4 so...

cylentka
12th of August 2007 (Sun), 08:20
Hey Crissa! Best of luck with the portrait business. I think I'll stick to bugs, lol.

Sounds like Eli will be at the orthodontists soon! I have no idea what a palate splitter is. Allie only has one new front tooth in so far and its not all the way in, so can't really tell much about it. Its small, but bottom front teeth generally aren't big. The color is a little different than the baby teeth. At the last dentist trip the dentist said that if Allie's adult teeth are as far apart as her baby teeth, she would benefit from a retainer to pull them together a bit. She has a bit space between her upper front teeth now, and he thinks her permanent teeth might be like that too. Sorta depends on how big the permanent teeth are when they come in.

I told Allie about her assessment tomorrow and she's downstairs studying!! I told her she didn't have to, but she's all afraid she'll not know a word or something. I tried to explain that it was just a test to see where she is and its ok wherever she is, etc. but she doesn't get it.
