G'mae everyone :)

Very nice, Permie. We haven't been to a full re-enactment of the Civil War, there is a camp at the Pioneer Festival. In September we will be going to a WWI re-enactment. Went two years ago and looking forward to going again.

Oh and...

Happy, Happy, Birthday.!!!

Thanks and Thanks again Becky :)

:sigh:

Today Christopher goes to the babysitter all day...

Please tell me all will be well, and we're not doing any undue harm to him.

You're not doing any undue harm to him Mike. You're doing what you need to do to provide a good existance for him. Either way is hard (we did what Jim and Lisa did and I stayed home with the kids but eeking out a decent living is almost impossible for an every day Joe, doing that) and there are benefits and minuses to both decisions. Just choose what you feel is best and move forward with it...and you all will be fine. ;)

He posts tons of his photos. They're all birds and tree sharks.

You're right but my only quibble with this post is that they are really only "ducks and tree sharks" with an occasional tern thrown in for good measure....real birds are noticably absent. He's really a lens "collector" who takes a lot of duck/squirrel shots

I like the new Avatar, Athena... Always good to see a smiling face...!

ME TOO!

Ummm... Girly things that she's won on eBay.
Pete, I'm thinkin' Ali would get along great with Lisa. She buys lots of little stuff off eBay, things just like Ali did. At least she does not spend big bucks on this kinda stuff, not like I do with my (our) toys. :)

She also goes thrift store shopping at least once a week and has my daughter Caitlin hooked on it too. Again, a great deal for me, she gets lots of shopping in without spending a ton of money.

Athena, I too like your new avatar. I am one who likes it when folks change up their avatar on a regular basis.

We'll be checking your homework when you've done it, Maxy....

i meet up with a photographer (Jeff Philips) every week but hes out of town for about 2 months and he wants me to take 2 or 3 pics, one in the day time and one during the "golden hour"........stuff I already know

Im turning in late homework:shock:

I just got back from checking the first apartment on the list I had to look at. I love it! I want it! It's soooo much nicer than where I am now. I'm filling out the application now. Once they run the credit check and I'm approved (and there's no reason I shouldn't be), they said I should have the key in 24 to 48 hours and can start moving in. I hope I can finish the move in two weeks so I don't have to pay for another month, or part of a month, for this dump. I'm so out of here!!!

Of course, it means I'll be driving 50 miles each way to work every day instead of six, but that just gives me a little incentive to finish my Network+ certification so I can find a job closer to the new digs to get me by until I become fabulously wealthy as a self-employed freelance photographer.

It's the same address, though. The address I gave you is my mailing address, not my home address. I haven't used the address here where I live in about 5 years. I rent a mailbox in a storefront in Burbank.

High:cool: Viva la vida oxycontin. Thanks for all the inquires and kind words. It makes a guy, who is a bit fragile right now, feel good.

I just posted a few shots from the reenactment Permi these shots are not good they are fantastic!!!!! I really like them. You captured the action and feel wonderfully. I want to go to some reenactments here. I have not been but what is cool is here they do the reenactments on the actual preserved battle fields. They may, for example, reenact a particular charge. They place troops and equipment just as it was historical documented.

How many of us are interested in shipping our books around for signatures? I am but need to think about logistics. let us know how you plan to do it.

I can't begin to tell you how many times that I ran and climbed up the steps of Dad's combine. That is really neat Jamie:).

Greetings all!!

I got my POTN book today. I must say I am pleased and not surprised how many of us from TPBM were voted into the book. Everyone here really does take great photos!! The book is awesome and I cannot wait to participate in volume 2!

A side point. I showed it to a co-worker and he made a cool suggestion that I think I might try with Scotland... He suggested making a travel book of my vacation. Maybe give a little narrative on some of the photos. I might give it as a gift to my friends in Scotland and some family members.

Pete

theague
14th of August 2007 (Tue), 15:00
I have no idea, i haven't looked into it. My best guess is less than the cost of the POTN book. lol I would never have enough photos/words to make a book that large of a 3-week trip. It'd probably only end up being 12 pages or something silly :p

Earlier today Nathan showed me a sketch of his plan for a tunnel (covered skywalk) to Mars. He saw a show that said they'd found evidence there could have been water there and he is now determined to colonize Mars. He says we can take what we need in through the tunnel. Matthew suggested building a biosphere around the entire planet and bringing trees so that we wouldn't have to keep pumping new O2 out there.

These are the next generation people. Be afraid....

Welcome back among the living, Zane!

great news! Do you have a floor plan to show us? is it online somewhere?

Here's the floorplan:

Sounds good, Lonnie. Pete's set the standard, you know you have to post shots when you move in don't you ;)

WOO HOO!! Keep us posted on progress....sounds awesome!

I'll be sure to take plenty of pictures. The only reason I don't have many pictures of my cats is because I'm ashamed to show how rundown and dilapidated the place I'm in now looks. I never even invite visitors over because of that. It's gotten that bad. This place really has turned into a slum, and there are a lot of gang members in this neighborhood. I only stayed here so long because it's rent controlled and would cost me double what I'm paying now just to move next door!

But, rents are much cheaper in the high desert of Palmdale. For only $80/month more, I get 200 more square feet, a balcony, my very own water heater and electronic central air/heating system!!! (no more taking a cold shower in the morning because the neighbors have used up all the hot water -- and currently I only have a small, very inefficient window mounted air conditioner and no heater), tons more closet space, a much much much nicer neighborhood, and I'll now only be about 10 miles away from my brother's house. My cell phone also gets excellent coverage there, so I'm going to use that as my main phone and not get a landline. For Internet access, I'll speed myself up from this slow DSL and get Cable access. Woohoo! It just keeps getting better and better... :D

The climate will take some adjusting. The summer temps there are usually about 10 degrees hotter than they are here. The winters are a lot colder, too. You know I barely know what rain is now, since this area only averages 12.1 inches per year. Well, Palmdale only gets 7.36 inches per year. But... This is what will really take some adjusting. Palmdale also averages 4.4 inches of snow per year. I haven't lived in a place that gets snow since 1978... lol

Well, the application has been submitted. I should hear back from them by 2pm tomorrow. As long as nothing goes wrong, I should have the keys and start moving in tomorrow evening. I gotta start packing now!

Oh... And the San Gabriel Mountains where Ashley and I like to hike a lot is a good 40 to 50 mile drive from where I am now. From my new place, it's about 10 miles.

Oh, and the new place has a dishwasher... ;)

And it's a huge walk-in closet, too! I'll be able to keep all of my clothes, camera gear and hiking gear in there, with room to spare.

I don't get my own washer/dryer, though. But it's a pretty big complex, and there are several laundry rooms. Better than here where the 52 units have to share four of each, and half of the machines are usually out of order...

Thanks Lonnie. That place looks great and if you decide it is not for you you can always move again. That is really fun to have a big change of life so quick.

Yep!- but mine's feeling a little scary for me right now.

Lonnie- Looks like a great place! Here's mine. I had to rent a storage unit so really could have done a two bedroom cost-wise.

You probably should have rented a two-bedroom, then. At least you'd have all your stuff with you.

That ceiling fan symbol on your floorplan reminds me, the description for mine said it had one, but I don't remember seeing it. I'll have to check that again tomorrow, or ask about that.

Are you on the ground with a patio or elevated? What do you see from the patio/deck?

I haven't actually seen mine yet. I saw the "show" apartment. Mine will be in a different building than where I was today. So, I don't know what the view will be like. It will be a second floor unit with a balcony, though. That much I know, because that's what I asked for. I said I wanted the second floor and as far away from the pool as possible. For the past 16 years I've been in an apartment directly in front of the building's pool. All day long during the summer months I have kids screaming at the top of their lungs, right outside my window. It's time for that to end...

Good to see you Kody. Doing a Blurb book is rather simple. I am working on mine now. I have about 50 pages left for hte 160 page book. The 160 book will $39.95 just like the POTN book. All you need to do is download blurbs software and have fun. I have some suggestions if you get started LMK.

Hi again all, you sure are a chatty bunch! I think that's why I love yous.;)

WOO HOO Lonnie! I am so happy for you. The floor plan looks so nice and it will such a great upgrade for you! We want details about everything as you move, lol. This is so exciting! I think you'll love the snow since it won't stick around long. It is so fun to watch it snow.

High:cool: Viva la vida oxycontin.

Zane! Good to see ya around again. :)

Oh that is so cool!

Of course, it means I'll be driving 50 miles each way to work every day instead of six, but that just gives me a little incentive to finish my Network+ certification so I can find a job closer to the new digs to get me by until I become fabulously wealthy as a self-employed freelance photographer.

I didn't have any luck finding a black light. I got new litter boxes, kitty litter and new bowls for everyone. I thought they would have some kind of battery operated, portable neon blacklight thingees by the litter and Nature's Miracle stuff, but no luck. I still have a couple weeks to track something like that before I need it, though. The kitties need to spend a little time in pergatory retraining, before they're allowed near carpet again...

I also saw bird feeders, and it made me realize I'll have a place to put one now that I have a balcony. More photo ops! Woohoo! I wonder if there are hummingbirds in the high desert. Maybe I should get a hummingbird feeder, too.

Any other kind of rats you can think of?

There are RatDogs, open to interpretation.;)

No, but we're hopeful, our surroundings are perfect for them.

Hedgehogs are one of those critters that I know live in the wild, just can't imagine it though. KWIM?

the webcam Mike made me install before he left. He said that if he has to be away for that long, he wants to be able to video chat with us.

Awwww, twu wuv.:D

Sylvan is really great - an unbelievable tool. I am SO happy we found them.

I went through a similar program, believe it or not, AFTER graduating from High School. It was to help my comprehension. It did help, I no longer have to read a page 3-5 times before I can tell you what it said. Still, I'm not a big reader, sadly, unless it is something I am really interested in. Lack of comprehension probably explains why I'm so bad at remembering names.

CJ on the other hand was one that could be reading something while the teacher was talking to the class about something totally different and could recite back both what he read and what the teacher said. Problem was he knew it, he knew the teachers knew he knew it, so why bother putting all the stuff down on paper? I often when over my alotted time at parent teacher conferences.:(

They are very lucky to have the privilege of being global, IMO.

I think we all are. Breaks down a lot of walls and preconceptions.

I love it! I want it!

YAY!!! Lonnie, is Palmdale east of LA toward Palm Springs? I don't recognize the name to make a mental note where it is. Remember I was stationed at George AFB in Victorville. Can you give me a refrence point from there? (BTW George AFB is where CJ was born.)
