Ok here is a question for all of ya'll:
Keep in mind you gals brought this up via the snow woman.
Why when it is cold do women have things that grow and men have things that shrink. That don't seem fair. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
what a pointed question. . .

Cat - that movie you posted lyrics from last night - is is a true story (off to google it)? I haven't seen it and only know generally what it's about. I wonder if it is banned in Thailand... They are really sensitive to Western story-telling that involves their monarchy. The child in the story is one of their most revered kings - Rama V.

It's from "The King and I" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049408/) the musical. I haven't seen the 'real' one, I think it's called "Anna and the King" or something like that.

I'm all for the use of English, but implying that a country's royal monarch had a romantic interlude and received extensive political counselling from the governess is a bit much... ;)
Apparently there is a fairly recent book about the present King of Thailand that is supposed to be very factual and is also banned in Thailand. I wanted to buy it when I was here last summer, but in light of the coup that happened in September, I am glad I didn't take that back with me!

No more than that whole Sleeping Beauty thing. Hey, I know she wasn't sleeping. She was faking it.
And Humpty Dumpty was pushed.
And don't get me started on Cinderella and the talking mice or Snow White taking that apple from the hag.... anyone with half a brain could see right through that ruse. Apple, sheesh. At least make it a bag of gummy bears, or something.

Love the shot, Pete. Here are some little nit-picky things you might've missed:
- I zoomed in on the cat at around 750%, and right there, on the ear to my left, is a hair that just, I don't know, it looks wonky. Just that one hair. It crosses over another hair and it sorta bothers me. I would definitely clone that one out.
-Is it me, or is the right eye .00083% greener than the left? That was strikingly obvious to me. I know it's not my monitor, I calibrate it every five minutes.
-The fungus on the end of the log is the poisonous Myskinrotus offadaboneus. Not something I would want on my photos. Try to spend some time in PS to change it into something less lethal. It should only take six or seven hours to do.
-If you count the leave from the top right, go over 73, then down another 15, there's a spider. It's distracting and draws my eye. I'd clone that out, too.
-There are dark fields of fur over the collar bones of the cat. The one on my left is slightly thicker than the one on the right. I don't know if you're leaving that imbalance there on purpose, but it gives too much weight to one side of your apparent goal of symmetry. That would be something I would fix right away.
-The cat doesn't look angry enough for me. It might work for a few others, but really, I want a cat with more emotion. In PS, under "Filters", click the one marked, "Ticked Off". Move the anger slider to the right until the effect is right.
Outside of that, it's a great photo. :D

What would happen if you were found with said banned book? Fahenheit 451 comes to mind.... :shock:I am not sure exactly what would happen - it is military rule right now. At minimum they would take the book and fine the he77 out of me. They could deport me. They could jail me. I don't want to find out. If I ever read the book it won't be on Thai soil. Yep - respect for authority. I got that. ;)

We had a great night with a few friends, smoked back ribs and lots of other great stuff
The ribs must be hard to keep lit
Perhaps I am overly suspicious, but aren't you concerned with WHY it's really cheap? I am with you
Cheap is relative with these lenses... :-D
I missed it - Thats a bummer it is my favorite lens. I have never heard anyone complain of a soft copy.

I am with you
It was $1475 - right in line with most used versions I see which are $1450 - $1550 - I wasn't too afraid. The guy had good feedback.
If it was $1100 I would question it :-D

OK, I know nothing about horses, so I almost laughed about the mane part remark, but then I thought, "What if he's serious? Maybe us Western folk part our manes on the left, the Easterners on the right, horses from the Midwest somewhere in the middle and horses from Kentucky have mullets." What do I know.

Pete, those are great shots from the zoo. The cat was cool, and loved the proud papa one. Raining hard here today so I packed in the idea of going to the zoo, though there would not likely have been many folks there.
Deb, you sure got lots of great shots on your trip. Great looking horse. :)

OK, I know nothing about horses, so I almost laughed about the mane part remark, but then I thought, "What if he's serious? I am serious. Most western broke horses have manes on the left as to not interfere with the cowboys rope. Left handed cowboys deal with it or comb to the right. English broke horses are traditionally combed to the right. Some horses have wonky manes and just don't want to go the way you want them to. Also English horses usually have their manes pulled too about 4 inches compared to longer manes on western guys.

Well, OK then. Glad I didn't laugh. :o Never thought about the mane getting in the way of the rope. Clever. So much information, so little brain.

I carry a body on each shoulder and set the strap length to give added stability when I bring the camera up. This is carried over from my shooting days. I used to be an avid shooter and firearm enthusiast including reloading and matching ammunition to the gun for precision accuracy. After getting horses and picking up a camera this as well as many old hobbies have gone by the wayside.

Just out with a couple of friends yesterday, one of which has a little Olympus E-500 (his first SLR). He managed to get some good shots out of it (somewhat soft, but that's nitpicking, it's good VFM).
The broadband is still annoying me, no news until tuesday, could be several days until it's actually sorted.

I got talking to this old guy at the zoo yesterday (he was shooting from a tripod and bemoaning the reflections off the perspex). It turns out he's got a 500mm in his backpack, but he didn't want to use it because it was so heavy. Anyhow, we started talking about stuff, especially how odd camera club competitions are.
Nice old boy.
Complete change to a few people walking around with their monopods and brand new LowePro backpacks. When I see people like that with brand new kit and an obvious ego, I don't find myself drawn toward them. Just me and my beat up 100-400 yesterday.
Well, and Ali carrying my 135L in her handbag... :D

This session was probably the most difficult thus far. He's been rather fussy lately, which complicates things. Once we got him non-fussy, he kept wanting to turn over from tummy to back while shooting him, so there's lots sideways pictures. He finally melted down after the diaper pics, so we figured it was time to end it there.
There's lots of great ones, so many to choose from... these are the ones I liked best.
