Great stuff, Dan :D Has anyone suggested framing and hanging :)
Nothing to add...just subscribing to the thread.
Hi Dave! Sounds like you'll fit right in :)
Love the shot, Pete. Here are some little nit-picky things you might've missed:
- I zoomed in on the cat at around 750%, and right there, on the ear to my left, is a hair that just, I don't know, it looks wonky. Just that one hair. It crosses over another hair and it sorta bothers me. I would definitely clone that one out.
-Is it me, or is the right eye .00083% greener than the left? That was strikingly obvious to me. I know it's not my monitor, I calibrate it every five minutes.
-The fungus on the end of the log is the poisonous Myskinrotus offadaboneus. Not something I would want on my photos. Try to spend some time in PS to change it into something less lethal. It should only take six or seven hours to do.
-If you count the leave from the top right, go over 73, then down another 15, there's a spider. It's distracting and draws my eye. I'd clone that out, too.
-There are dark fields of fur over the collar bones of the cat. The one on my left is slightly thicker than the one on the right. I don't know if you're leaving that imbalance there on purpose, but it gives too much weight to one side of your apparent goal of symmetry. That would be something I would fix right away.
-The cat doesn't look angry enough for me. It might work for a few others, but really, I want a cat with more emotion. In PS, under "Filters", click the one marked, "Ticked Off". Move the anger slider to the right until the effect is right.
Outside of that, it's a great photo. :D
Can you tell I've been lurking over at the Wedding Forum lately? ;)
ROFLMAO!!

These are so great Mike. What I would have given to have shots of my kids like this.
Yep, managed to catch a good frown on him just before he launched into another lovely bawl-o-rama. ;)
The lighting is great Mike. What was your setup? And wasn't Christopher so behaved? :) *grin*
Cat: Does look like a lip-quiver eh?!!! :) daaaaw... my kid's 6 months + now, and I'm already getting clucky over younger ones... :D
2 Umbrella'd Sunpak 383's one camera-right as high as I could get it at 1/2 power. Pretty typical 45° setup. Other was Camera-left, a little lower and at 1/8 power (fill). I use shoot-through umbrellas, so the tines are less obvious in the catch lights.
And thanks guys

Sounds very yummy Zane, all foods that are loved in our household. We started buying whole lambs from a farmer we know who does his own butchering. I would rather heat up a meat pie and throw together a quick salad before eating fast food. I just don't enjoy it like I used to (which is a good thing).
Supper tonight for us was stuffed zucchinis, all the veggies outta our garden. Very yummy.

Good god. I just read what I wrote, and that has no place here. That kind of rhetoric belongs in the wedding forum for sure. Let me rephrase:
I was out in the jungle observing these people waving orange sticks. All of the sudden a huge beast would land, open its belly and drop crates on the ground.
Later I attempted the same thing. Never could summon the large winged beast.
(IOW, I succumbed to the cargo cult (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cargo_cult))

No fig trees around here at all and not much for any well producing fruit trees, though the interior British Columbia has tons of orchards. I would imagine you need lots of light for a fig tree.

OK this recipe makes 4 loaves. Make the whole recipe, if you can't eat all 4 loaves, it freezes well. ;)
6 cups flour
3 tsp baking soda
2 tsp baking powder
4 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
2 1/2 tsp salt
* 4 cups grated zucchini (NOT peeled)
* 2 cups vegetable oil (Don't give me that face, it's what makes it good, lol)
* 6 eggs
* 2 Tbs milk
~ Grease bottoms only of loaf pans
~ combine all dry ingredients in large mixing bowl
~ Blend together the * ingredients (I do it half at a time in the blender)
~ add the * ingredients to the dry ingredients. Mix well.
bake at 350 for 1 hour 15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Remove from pans and cool on racks.

Do you like doom and gloom? Cops and Americas most wanted are favorites. A&E has The first 48 hours, Tuesday I think. It is good homicide detective show, all real. Forensic files, Dr.g Medical Examiner, court TV is a great place. Google times and channels. I will not rant but I cannot stomach most made up Hollywood crap TV. Sitcoms are okay but the fake drama shows insult my overactive sense of reality.

The kitties are doing pretty good. They're still confined to the bathroom (they were hiding in the cabinets when I took the bathroom shots), but they're behaving as far as the litter boxes are concerned. I think everything will work out just fine.
I have a ton of artwork. That alone took me one whole trip from the old place. I didn't realize how much I had until I piled it all in the car. Filled the back and passenger seats all the way to the ceiling.

I'm just stocking up so that when I'm old and forgetful like Belmondo, I can afford to leave them behind...
I have used all three tripods all at once several times, though. I don't have any light stands (yet), but I do sometimes use one or two of the tripods to hold my flashes. If I'm shooting macro in close quarters, instead of using my flash bracket, I'll put the 580EX on a separate tripod, with the off-camera shoe cord stretching to it. Then, I'll put the 420EX on another tripod at a different angle, firing that one as a slave. I sometimes also put a flash on a tripod when I'm doing long exposure star trail shots, just to keep my hands free.

Thats a bummer it is my favorite lens. I have never heard anyone complain of a soft copy.I've had some soft issues with mine, but then while doing some testing last night I discovered that the reason my shots were soft was photographer related and had nothing to do with the lens.

Wonderful series.... I turned into a complete newb yesterday when the nephews came round. Their mother wanted pictures of them in their school uniform. Like a complete dolt, I left the camera on the 1/200 sync mode, so all my shots with flash came out way overexposed, all the shots without flash seriously needed fill-in flash.
Darn.
But I got some nice pics of Max (5yrs) demonstrating how well he can ride his bike without stablisers.
OK this recipe makes 4 loaves. Make the whole recipe, if you can't eat all 4 loaves, it freezes well. ;)
Bookmarked, but I'm not overly keen on courgettes. I guess grated will be fine though...
My kids used to drink Ribena - it's made from black currants. VERY different taste.
I used to love cartons of that. We have Robinson's now though. Apple and Blackberry at the moment. Very refreshing

Nice. Will leave comments on the gallery.
Edit: Yep, looks nice to us, Lonnie. not so sure about the dreamcatchers in the bathroom through (it's been many years since I woke up on the bathroom floor), they look like they might get a bit manky after a few dampenings from the showers. Also (and I'm being paranoid here), the photoshop sticker on the window might tell any potential burgulars that you've got expensive camera gear in your apartment. Most break-ins are opportunistic in nature, I never like to give people a reason to want to come in.
I've had some soft issues with mine, but then while doing some testing last night I discovered that the reason my shots were soft was photographer related and had nothing to do with the lens.
Woot for common sense. We have liberaly sprinklings of "my lens is back/front/side focusing", or "soft copy", etc. The vast majority of which are use error. If I ever take a bad photo (more often than not), I'll blame myself first and the equipment last.

I used to love cartons of that. We have Robinson's now though. Apple and Blackberry at the moment. Very refreshing. We can't get Ribena in Thailand, so the boys haven't really had it since we moved there. And on our last trip to Malaysia they didn't like it anymore. Recently one of the local stores had a couple of Robinson's squashes and I bought the one you mentioned (they love it) and the Summer Fruits (they hate it). :)

As for doom and gloom shows - I like forensics but not all cop shows. probably should steer clear of anything too sad, considering... I just blew through a whole season of 24 in no time at all. Thought that would last me longer.
I like NCIS - sort of a lighter hearted CSI. That and the F1 Grand Prix are bout the only things I'll go out of my way to watch

Either that or the new 40D, it has a way improved viewfinder and LCD display, and tons of other improvements thrown in. I do love my 5D, but want the 40D for my long lenses and maybe macro again now as the live view zoomed in is going to be awesome for fine focusing.

That hasn't been a problem so far. Those things have been hanging in the bathroom of my old place for about five years. They haven't gotten icky from repeated exposures to shower steam yet.
BTW, only one of those is a Dream Catcher... From left to right, they are: Medicine Pouch (with feather in it -- this was made personally just for me by a friend), Dream Catcher, Mandella, and Medicine Wheel.
Also (and I'm being paranoid here), the photoshop sticker on the window might tell any potential burgulars that you've got expensive camera gear in your apartment. Most break-ins are opportunistic in nature, I never like to give people a reason to want to come in.
I hadn't thought of that. But, really, that sticker is not visible from the sidewalk below. You would have to be on the balcony to be able to see it, and if someone is going to climb up to the balcony from the ground level, I'd bet they're already planning to break in anyway.

Hmmmm... Not sure I'd want two bodies. Certainly can't afford it now!!!
It is a great thing to have a second body. Way less missed opportunities then. At the zoo I leave the 100-400 on the 1.6x crop (actually it says on there 90% of the time) and leave the 5D free for the 100 macro (my 2nd most used lens at the zoo) or either the 24-105 or one of my faster short primes. There is the bit of extra weight to carry, but in many cases it is worth it. When on a big hike I will only take one body.
Besides Pete, how many times have we heard the "I don't have the money" line, yet new gear pops up on your list. ;)
