Thanks!

you can dodge them out, or mask a selctive color layer and paint her eyes a brighter shade of blue, or you can mask a brighter layer and paint the eyes to the level you want. Great candid BTW, I like the reds on the tips of her fingers.

By the look of that on my monitor, I'm not sure there's enough exposure for the eyes to bring them up well.
Can you post a link to a larger file, RAW if possible?

Your image is pretty small, but I took a shot at it. I'm sure a ton of folks here could help if the image size was larger :)

Well I am certainly not an expert, but here is my go at it. First I created a layer and brightened the entire image (adjusted exposure and gamma). Then I lightened the eyes (dodged), this actually made them look green. Added blue to the eyes using the ellipse tool and blended using overlay about 20%.

^^ I know exactly how that feels. Did you get the Scott Kelby book on PShop for Photographers yet?

No, I haven't but now that you have mentioned it I will go out and get it today! I didn't even know where to start. I was online looking at workshops but they are super expensive. Thanks for the suggestion.

If you have iTunes, you can subscribe to Kelby's podcasts, too.
When you're ready, the best single book I've seen is "Adobe Photoshop Restoration & Retouching" by Katrin Eismann.

Here you go mate:

And here is just a fun version I thought would look good:

Now what I did was brighten the eyes and raise the contrast on the image for the first photo. And I ran NoiseNinja on it too (sharpens a bit and removes noise, as you can tell).

Here's my attempt at it: I used a few adjustment layers to get my result:
1. Global Levels adjustment layer that included setting the grey point for clolour correction.
2. Global Curves layer for a little added contrast.
3. Selection of the eyes only as a Curves adjustment layer to brighten them.
4. Selection of the irises only as a Curves adjustment layer using only the blue channel to bring out the blue in them.
5. Selection of the irises only for a little USM 75, 0.8, 0.

I also cropped it a little tighter to bring it within the posting guidelines of 800 pixels max on a side.
Hope you like it.

Here's my take.
1. Dodged the whites of her eyes and the iris.
2. Burned her lash line and the outline of the iris.
3. Made a new layer and used blue to color the iris.
4. Changed that layer's blending option to color dodge.
5. Merged all layers together
6. Played around with Levels.
7. Sharpened

Have they relaxed the 800 pixel limit then? That's great

Er! that was meant as a rhetorical question, I know they haven't but obviously others in this thread don't!
