View Full Version : performer quirks

I was wondering why a performer I've photographed a couple times never used certain shots that I thought were really good. Turns out she can't stand photos of the left side of her face. She only wants to be photographed from her right. I will try to accommodate her, but I have to say this: That's crazy! This woman is stunningly beautiful from either side. It will greatly limit things to only photograph her from her right.
Has anyone else run into bizarre performer quirks like this?

She would notice. That would turn her into a left-handed guitarist when she's right handed. Plus, she has an unmistakable dimple on the left side of her face (which might be part of what she doesn't like, but it's really quite charming).

Because people are human and life avoids logic! Lyle Lovett and Englebert Humperdinck wouldn't let me shoot them at all, but at John Stoy's venue it was apparently OK. Dolly Parton didn't want close ups. ZZ Top didn't want distant shots. Others have wanted to be shot only from ladders (which didn't happen) because they were mortally afraid of the "up the nose" shots. Some people are simply vane, others traumatized and still others need to get back on their meds. But most of all it has NOTHING to do with how attractive they actually are.

Haha! Great idea. I think you should really try that. Crop out anything that would be noticable, for instance the guitar.

Performer quirks are actually a lot of fun once you embrace them. I plan on being on the road bit in the fall with one performer, who will remain nameless for now, that is very vain and has thrown out a lot of potential gotchas into the process. Let's face it, we all have our 'weirdness" in some things. Life is always give and take.
One person that I admire is Ryan Adams...who hates to be photographed, but keeps a sense of humor about it all.
