Hi
In situations where bounce flash is not possible. I've got a 430ex and 350D and would like to take pictures of family at night with different sort of light (tungsten/flourescent etc) where I can't ccontrol. How do I use my flash and white balance? I suppose flash should be the usual 90 degree angle facing the subject? I always shoot flash in manual mode.
many Thanks

sounds like the only choices left are direct flash or a diffuser. i know most here hate direct flash but i use it a lot with what i think are good results. if you want to avoid it though maybe try the Lumiquest. as far as WB goes that's going to depend on what your shooting i would think. i shoot raw and the the click WB tool in DPP. I'm not to scientific with it, i just keep clicking on white things in the image until i get one that looks right. then i apply the settings to all the similar pics in the set.

I shoot only in jpg. I read somewhere under those type of lighting conditions, best leave White Balance to AWB.

Go to strobist.com... Use a gel on the flash to balance it to tungsten and then white balance for tungsten. Problem solved.

Go to strobist.com and look in lighting 101... It's all there. If I did all the work for you, you won't learn anything.;)
