As some others I have been having inconsistent results with my MarkIII even with stationary subjects.
My latest experimentation shows that the central focus point area is actually much larger than the red rectangle and it is uniform allaround, and I would say it is approximately twice the size of the red rectangle.
That would explain why sometimes the focus snaps on the background instead of the centre area.
Has anyone else noticed it?
I was told by my dealer that it was normal and was found on other cameras as well, but it just seems much larger than you would expect, and it makes focusing on smaller subject almost impossible.
I tested it with single shot, no extension with the 100mm macro at 2.8, but overall with lenses with small DOF (especially the 85 1.2) the stationary shots are very unreliable. My serial number is indicating early model.
Thanks,
zsolt
