Does anyone use the depth of field preview button on the DRebel ?
I can't really see the region which are in focus. Do you ? if yes please share any tips. Thanks.

Very useful for landscape photographers using ND grads.
Setup the shot, dial in your f11 or so aperture. Hit the DOF preview button and you can see the DOF and also the effect the ND grad will have. Very useful.
But why they put it there I don't know (I'm talking about on the 10D, guess it is the same on the 300D ?).
I've always wished the DOF preview to be added to stage one of the shutter release. I.e. you press down to stage one and the camera focuses, then once focused, then stops down the lens so you can see what you are going to get. Stage two of the shutter would remain the actual firing. Of course, this function would be in the CF menu.
I think I'll start a petition......
Cheers

It is very close to where it is on the A series (A1, AE1, AT1) bodies. It seems like a natural spot when one comes off this type of camera such as myself.

The viewfinder is too dark at smaller apertures to see exactly what is in focus.
I use the button rather for bokeh control. It shows how blurry the foreground/background will be. That's especially important if you want to "isolate" your main object from the surrounding, e.g. with long lenses or macro.

After following this post I have been trying my depth of field button on my 10D with macro 100f2.8 and MT24 flash. The viewfinder darkens immediately and then darkens again further after approx 1-2 seconds. What is going on ?

Re the button placement. "It seems like a natural spot ...'
Good spot, wrong execution! The button needs to be much larger so you don't have to fumble around for it when you need it. (Like on my Nikons!)
