What's my best option

I want to add another flash. I currently have a 580ex with 2 pocket wizards. I would like to have another flash to be able to get two lights off the camera. Any recommendations? Should I consider a more powerful strobe? I mainly shoot people indoors but will do some outdoor stuff where 2 lights for creative fill would be nice.

If I have a pw on my camera, can I my 580 (with pw) trigger another speedlite?

Since the Pocket Wizard negates anything but manual function, I would not get another very expensive Canon flash.

Try a $80.00 Sunpak 383 with a $10.00 optical slave.

Unless you purchase another Pocket Wizard (or use a cord), firing the 2nd 580EX will be difficult.

Canon really makes it hard to do off camera manual flash.

Since your (expensive) 580EX flash will be limited to manual mode you shouldn't have any trouble tripping a Sunpak 383 with an optical slave. It won't be as robust and reliable as PWs but should work - most of the time.

And I agree, Canon does make this difficult and expensive.

Tom, the 580 with PW can be used as master/slave setup to fire a slave EX like the 430. Of course both flash have to be in manual mode, but the cool feature of this setup is that you can control the slave power output from the 580. The sync speed will limited to 1/125 though.
