one of my favorites
I like this lens, but it is dependent on light, or good ISO noise
I have some other versions somewhere the big one needed rotating a bit
there are a few sports on my web site taken with the 100-400 all the Cricket ones are
in the right hands this lens can capture some great shots, I am still learning and a novice

nice pics thanks for the reply, im mostly going to be shooting football, American , and soccer outside, soccer and peewee football during the day, and Friday night high school footall. so im sure ill have to get some kind of 2.8 to 2.0 lens eventually like the 200 or somthing like that but this is the one im going with for now. thanks again

well 200 is now where near long enough for full size soccer pitches, and I doubt you would be able to shoot with the 100-400 at night, unless it was really well lit up, though I have not had opportunity to use at nite, or do football so far with my 100-400
but if you want to see a few more just look at web site for the cricket ones, it is pretty sharp when you get it right, and I still learning
But I don't think you will be disappointed with it

looks like a good sports lens to me, how bad is it really in low light, like at a football game, American football at night in a stadium, with the lights on the field and all. thanks for your posts, i know more people use this for that so lets see them

The 100-400 will most likely be too slow for shooting sports at night, especially at the longer focal lengths where maximum aperture is f/5.6. Freezing action will be extremely difficult. At f/4 you may get some shots but you will be bumping up the iso to the max.
