The title says it all, just about to order one and wanted to know so I can get one in advance ready.
Do they last a long time ?

I asked the same question in a camera store and was told the battery that comes with it lasts a bloody long time and shouldn't need replacing for quite a reasonable period. No experience with it myself though, someone here who owns one will be able to tell you.

It does not come with a battery. However, the battery should last for about 1500 shots... always good to have an extra battery in the bag though ;)

I don't know the lifespan but I bought an ST-E2 a while ago and it did NOT come with the battery. Canon doesn't supply that battery.

It needs a 2CR5 lithium battery, which does not come packaged with it. you should be able to buy this battery anywhere like walmart or best buy.

I used the ST_E2 for a year and a half mainly in copying work - ie copying paintings with the st as the master and 2 420EX for lighting and then at times in on jobs for other events. It was during one of these events when the flash could not fire. Was frustrating not knowing why, but then managed to switch on using the 580EX as master to replace it.
So always carry a spare as there is no counter to meter the battery life span.

Not 1500 if you leave it on when you put it in the bag. Carry a spare. :o

Carry spares but I haven't needed to change them yet.
