How does one increase the exposure time of a shot past 30 seconds to say 10 minutes or more? I havent quite figured out how to do this yet or if its even possible.

If it is please help the newbie out! :)

Thanks

Edit to add.

Answer was bulb setting. Now can the bulb setting be manipulated via the included PC software?

Not sure what camera you have, but it sounds like you want to change to manual mode and select BULB for the shutter. Holding down the shutter button will keep the shutter open, so you'll want to use a remote that locks the shutter button. You can also make one for under $10 to do the same thing.

You need to set it to what is called "bulb" (no idea why its called that) and you will also need a cable release.

There are manual cable releases.. in which case the shutter remains open as long as you hold the button.. or you can get one with a built in timer.. so you won't have to hold the button the whole time :)

what is called "bulb" (no idea why its called that)

The cameras of yester-year used to use pneumatic shutter releases attached to an air tube bulb; same thing I use to hopefully knock dust out of my camera (I actually use an infant ear syringe). As long as the bulb was squeezed the shutter stayed open. I guess bulb is still better than "two-way-intermittent-electronic-gate-relay-thing-a-ma-bob".

Does the RS-60E3 work with the 10D? I love mine and it was very cheap. Well worth the meager price. :)

Digital Rebel remote cord is RS60E3.
D60 and 10D use remote cord RS80N3.

They are not interchangeable.

(I actually use an infant ear syringe).

Hey Chazs, that's genius! :o

I have the usual cheap-o bulb blower that really doesnt work very well.
So after reading this, I went and pulled out an large, 1 oz ear syringe that I have and tried it. Man, it works SO much better.

Sweeet!

Ok, you asked...(from the Photonotes Canon EOS FAQs):

"Incidentally, bulb mode is so named because in the olden days of purely mechanical cameras remote shutter releases were typically rubber bulbs linked to the camera via hoses. Squeezing the bulb pushed a mechanical lever at the end of the hose, pressing down the shutter release. The use of the term on modern computerized cameras is an anachronism."

Can the Bulb setting be manipulated by PC software vs the cables mentioned in previous posts?
