Some various HipHop images from Atak, Enschede:

Not too good lighting, lots of jumping around and bassball caps...

good set; the smoke/fog in the back always adds some good textures.

#1 would be awesome if you had Kalle's fisheye lens. good pose nonetheless.
#2 i don't like the cut-off guy on the right, but if you were to maintain 2:3 ratio, you'd also probably have to cut off some of the negative space on top and below.
3 and 4, probably the best of the set. good energy and captures
5, could be reciting the label of a potato chip bag. no hip-hop feel here.
6 would be better if he had a Red Sox hat on ;) good exposure on the shadowed eyes. what was yr PP on this one?
7 at first i was annoyed w/ the far left finger, but it matches pretty well w/ the performer's.
8 ok

Thanx!

Maybe... This was my 20-35L at its widest...
I think the fisheye might have been too wide. Also, it's quite out of budget ;)

#2 i don't like the cut-off guy on the right, but if you were to maintain 2:3 ratio, you'd also probably have to cut off some of the negative space on top and below.

I have a few where the guy isn't cut off, but then the DJ in the BG is bending over, the mic is more in the face, or the stance of the singer is boring...
I found this the lesser evil.

3 and 4, probably the best of the set. good energy and captures
Was the easiest performer to photograph: Most energetic.
5, could be reciting the label of a potato chip bag. no hip-hop feel here.

That's 'cause he isn't hip hopping, but singing ;)
Was a part were HipHop was mixed with 'normal' vocals...

6 would be better if he had a Red Sox hat on ;) good exposure on the shadowed eyes. what was yr PP on this one?
Wouldn't you put socks on your feet? :D

On the PP:
Two exposures from one CR2. (One at 0, one at +1.7 EV)
Blend in PS, using the 'blending exposures' method.
Adjust levels of the layer mask.
Make a (soft) quick selection of the face, fill the layer mask with black around that.
Copy-paste the L channel, Blending mode soft light, opacity something like 40% IIRC.

7 at first i was annoyed w/ the far left finger, but it matches pretty well w/ the performer's.
That's why I left it in ;)
8 ok
Needed to get a shot of him: He was presenting it...

I like #5 & #6. I don't care for Hip Hop ... too much like Rap with little musicality.

Man, that Narlus is really getting into Rene-like critiques, eh? Pretty soon he'll be saying, "Pity that ...".
