What kind of borders do you want to add, Dave?

Well, the easiest way is to press D then X, so that black is your background colour, then go to Canvas Size (in the Image menu) and slightly enlarge your image.

There are probably a dozen ways to do this in PS... that one's as good as any. Here are two more:
- Select all, edit -> stroke -> inside. Advantage this way is the image dimensions stay the same.
- Select all -> layers (or style) menu -> layer style -> stroke. This way means you can turn the border on and off at will using the layers palette. If you select only part of the image or a layer you can put the stroke around just that.
One effective border is to have a thin white border, then a thicker black border around it, or vice versa.

Yep that is my preferred border. Simple but yet ads a lot to the overall image.
