I have a couple of questions about Amazon.com:
1- I received a CF card from them which was packaged with only an inflated plastic. For a CF card that's not a problem but one would be scared to order a camera/lens if packaged that way, right? What do you think.
2- When they don't have an item, they take you to another reseller. In that case what's the relation between Amazon, the reseller, and the customer. Is it like buying from the reseller directly, what's the difference. I'm a bit confused.
Thanks in advance

CF cards are pretty tough, and I don't think it makes any difference to me how it is packaged. Cameras and lenses are nearly always packaged in a small foam "tub" that is placed in a box. You would probably have to drop it from some height to break the camera or lens inside.
I bought a very long three-pound lens that came in its padded field case, and the case was inside a foam-lined box. That thing has been back and forth across the country a few times via UPS. No problem.

The lens itself would be packed in a box, and that box would be in another box with the styrofoam pellets surrounding it. In such packaging the outer box can be pierced, dropped and shunted about without much worry about the lens nestlled in the middle.
Also, since accidents do happen, insurance is extremely advisable.
(Also, since everything sold from Amazon is shipped, I would expect them to do a very good job of packaging... Wouldn't get much repeat business otherwise.)

The reason I asked is because somebody in another forum received his camera in the way I described it earlier, just with inflated plastic. He even showed a pic of the package.

Don't see anything wrong wth using the inflated plastics. They absorb shocks just as well as the foam peanuts do. Besides, the camera is usually already packed very well in it's own original box.

For the most part, Amazon acts as a Portal for the other retailers. You order through Amazon, but the order is handled by the 3rd party merchant. You will notice that other merchants have differing return and shipping than basic Amazon.
I do believe that they exchange tracking information, so you can still check on your order via Amazon.

ALL my amazon packages usually include something fragile, and are in a box lined with a retarded amount of that large bubble paper stuff, like bubble wrap but BIG bubbles...my 50mm f 1.8 came today, it was packed tight in the box...my battery grib and batteries arrive tomorrow...i sexpect it will be a larger box witht he same packing...my 300d a few months ago came with the same packaging too...its pretty solid and trusty, i really like amazons service, ive had no issues other than package shipment delays during holiday seasons
and when they dont have camera stuff in stock, bhphoto is the first link they provide, so its all good

Thank you guys for the help. And as PacAce said, one should consider an insurance for expensive / fragile items.
dn7elson, correct me if i'm wrong. The transaction and dealing is done through amazon but the 3rd party makes the actual shipment. If that's the case, then that's very good news.
Again thanks to everybody for the help.
