it doesn't attract me much....

You need either a better defined shape for a silhouette, or a more colorful/interesting background..... prefferably both.

I agree with you,it lacks a point of interest.
Flowers need color, it helps to define them.
My 2 cents :D

I like the subtilty of the colors in the background and the composition. Perhaps using one flower to give it more definition might help, but I strongly disagree with the statement "flowers need color" Some of the best work I've seen have been subtile sshades of white flowers or even b&w shots.

I wasn't saying that the flowers need color. I was saying that the background needs more color.
There has to be a point of interest in the picture. It could be either a beautiful, well defined shape of the silhouette, or maybe a colorful background to grap the attention of the viewer.

My opinion: great concept; poor execution.

MY problem with this is simply that the silouette, to be effective, has to
be tack sharp against the background. So, it doesn't have enough DOF
for my liking. Retake the shot with a slightly higher f/stop?

This person sayeth
"That be a flower?"

It's been made clear in this thread that this is a flower, but if I were to walk past this on a wall somewhere I'd probably look twice and be thinking
"what be that then?"

I think I could walk past that pic any time or place and recognize what
it is.

Thanks for you comments. I doubt I will get the chance to try it again because that flower is 2.5 hours away from where I live. I really liked the sky so I thought I would give it a try, it was dark and the mosquitos were biting so I didn't stick around for long.

I do agree, I wish the second flower (slightly in the background) was not there. There was just too many to isolate the one.

Maybe next time.

As an Iris fan it doesn't do much for me. I like the idea, but I like to see color on my flowers.
