Digital has been cheaper than film in relation to processing costs for some time now (once you factor out the cost of the Hardware and software etc) but now it looks like the digital media is cheaper than unexposed film stock.

A 4Gig Hi Speed SD card from 7 Day shop is £16.48. Before I swung over to Digital I was using Fuji Velvia and Kodak Portra, frame for frame it was more expensive than mag media.

How long will it be before we will be archiving SD cards as backup and using a new card for each shoot?

Nah ... recycle them cards. Green is gonna be the new black, except in likes of US, Russia, China, India ;-)

That's a very interesting question. I can see developments of that...

How long before software comes as a card like a USB memory stick that you just plug into the computer?
Need a new O/S just plug it in. Computers could become a big case with a ton of USB sockets to plug in. Need more memory - plug in some USB memory.
