My girlfriend works at the local photo studio, they do mostly in house portraits and stuff but they recently went digital to experiment i guess. Their SLR's as far as i can tell are all Nikon...which is fine of course really. (i guess )

Anyways i stopped in to say hi to my lady, the owners son was in there and i thought i'd see what he thought about the lens i should get if i wanted to take pictures at our local football games. One thing lead to another and he decided he wanted to show me something odd about their d100.

He picked it up along with the flash (200ex maybe? i dont know nikon equipment) and took a shot at 1/125 at f/5.6. The shot was entirely blown out, he then noted how he had to stop all the way down to get a decent shot. So he set it to f/22 and took the shot, turned out fine.

I'm not sure if it was the camera, the flash, or the user (i suspect the last) but none the less...as a canon fanboy, i got a kick out of it.

That does sound odd. However to get decent flash results using my D60 and 550EX its always +2stops :?

Hmm.

If it was an amateur showing you that 'strange behaviour', I'd maybe check if the settings were all right in the first place.
But then, as a photography shop owner's son, he'll have inherited some photographic knowledge, I assume

I know a lot of settings to get totally overblown photos with my combination of G2 and external (Metz) flash and some few settings that actually work.

Guess we would have heard about that earlier, if it was something basically wrong with the D100.
Of course, a single camera or flash unit can be faulty, as well.

Best regards,
Andy
