Hi all,

I'm looking for input on lens repair options (local vs mail, etc) with specifics regarding vendors to use or avoid.

The only experience I have in this area was with a Tokina 17 ATXPro that needed to be re-chipped 10 years ago (before I began going with Canon glass). But recently my beloved 50 1.8 MkI stopped playing nice with a D60 and I realized I've never had to send the Canons out for work. It's probably unfortunate in this case, since the work may cost more than the lens (which I got for some small pebbles and elephant tusk in the late-Cretaceous era).

At any rate, all suggestions are appreciated.
Regards,
Bill

A new one is 75 bucks. By the time you get done with shipping the old one to Canon and the repair cost(unless it's still under warranty), you could have bought a new one.
Just my 2c.

Understood ... but I really do like the build quality of my MarkI and outside of this particular example wanted to get some input on repair options before I need it for one of the L series or similar. But I suspect you're right regarding the out of pocket costs in this case ...

Thanks,
Bill
