I met up with Chris and shot Gary Kyle at Hanks in McKinney this past Friday. Here are a few favs.. :) And I know, no use whining that the lighting sucked because lighting is always harsh in concerts...but it did ;) I didn't get one shot of the bassist where he was properly lit... well, except one :)

I like the "feel" of the whole set. # 6 is my favorite. # 3 would have been a very nice capture if the mic wasn't in the way of his face. Can't quite place it, but # 5 seems too sharp (?) on his head piece...almost as if it was added on in pp...my eyes get drawn to it and distracts fromthe picture for me. I would be curious to know what lens/iso/shutter you used in this setting.

Love #6, great shot! Love the angle and the DOF on it.

Thanks for the comments! I definitly didn't do any pasting on of heads! But my resize action has an extra sharpening action that sometimes is a bit much, I try to knock it back to about 50% but I may have forgot to on that particular shot.. :)
Most were shot with the 70-200 2.8 IS, or the 17-55 2.8 IS. (5 was 17-55) Mostly 1600-3200 ISO...

These are awesome Kathy! What settings are you using? There's a cantina in town that features local bands and I want to try it out & wanted to know a few things about settings so I can enjoy the show & take photos at the same time...

Nice Series !!... Congrats.

#6 is a great photo, specially for a live performance.

#3 ans #5 are the best as far as performance for me. Loving the lighting, it gives it -to me- that unplugged, acoustic- feeling.

Congrats !... :)

I like #3.
Pity about some microphones in the way on the first shots.
Nice series overall.

The mics don't bother me, nor do they bother my clients.

I say that knowing there are some shots where the mic or a shadow really messes with the shot. The mic IMO is almost as important as the guitar in the shot.....after all they are singing.

Thanks Rene! I have shots from every angle in that venue..literally, and there wasn't any way of avoiding the mic, when he backed off he looked down..:) But thanks again!

i totally LOVE that roof top shot.. thank you for that! I love the shot too...but was totally scared! I couldn't believe I was getting on the roof- with corrugated tin so it was especially difficult to walk on.

Kathy,

I know...I'm looking forward to it. I've built lots of collages before, but I know this will have a completely different look than what you normally do..?!. Thanks again, I had a blast!

Love #6, great shot! Love the angle and the DOF on it.
Thanks!

Truly excellent shots. Dwight must be shakin' in his boots.

Sounds like a great adventure with great results...

Looking forward to your collage...

Off topic collage story:
Here is my very first collage story, ready?
Got a lot of pictures from a Lake Conroe resort community (1981)... Got assigned a job to promote it... Using scissors and black photography tape, I created a large poster collage using those SLR pics... Took the poster to a local photographer... They got a pro SLR out and photographed the poster in natural daylight...

They processed the photo and made a 5" x 6" print of the collage... We printed 500 photos... An assistant glued the picture to a backboard, and made 500 store displays... I placed them in 500 stores around North Houston... We printed another 500 collage pictures, and the assistant pasted them on more backboards, and I placed the displays in another 500 select stores...That promo lead to regional and statewide marketing distribution to 3500 stores, by a full time staff of 15 distributors, etc...
