Can anyone help me with this matter! I have just bought a new CANON IXUS 500 Digital camera. The thing is when I have the camera on for more than 20 minutes it seems to get very warm on the front metal body. I don’t know if this is the norm!!!
I would like to find out before I take it back…
I used to have a FUJI A204 Digital camera and this never overheated. I don’t know if it’s because the CANON has a Lithium-ion battery as the FUJI only had the 2 AA batteries!
Thank you, Mark :?:

It is normal.
Due to the metal body (heat conductor) you may feel warm if compare to other plastic body camera.

Hi, I am new to this forum. I just bought the ixus 430 (my first digicam). I am facing the same problem as woktheblue. But I feel that it is not caused by the batt. Coz after i off the cam and took out the battery, there was hardly any warmess (if there is such a word) on the batt while the metal body was really very hot.
That aside. When i half press the shutter button, it makes a really loud whriling noise inside (which happens to be right under where the heat is coming from). It also takes a pretty long time for the green rectangles to appear. As this is my first digicam, I dunno if this is normal. Any advice from the more experienced?
Thanks

And it whirrs!
Situation normal. They are superb cameras

Whats the AIAF and how do ya turn it off?

AiAf is the artificial intelligence auto focus. Supposed to help focus on off centred objects. I think why Mac22 recommended it to be turned off is coz we usually frame a shot with the object in the centre. And i think it will be faster to take a photo because there will be less processing time.
AiAf can be turned off when u press "menu" button in shooting mode.

Does your own camera get warm on the front?
I have a IXUS II and it get warm pretty fast too (front and back).
I think it is cause by the LCD. (I shoot with LCD on all the time)
My 300D LCD screen get warm too when I review my photo.
It should not get warm if you shoot with the LCD off.
(I did not try it before, correct me if I'm wrong)
