I'm looking at buying the Vivitar 285HV flash to use with my D30 (and EOS 3) for those times I need extra light but can't use my monolights. I know it won't give me the features of the Canon 550EX or even the Sigma 500 Super, but for the price and the number of times I'll probably use it, it seems like a good choice.
The question I have concerns the trip voltage. I've seen a lot of people that use this flash, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's safe. Does anyone know if the trip voltage is within what Canon says is safe for the D30?

Thanks for any info.

Mike

Hello Mike,

I don't use the 285 but I do use the 283. I always trip oit using either my Pocket Wizard or a Wein voltage regulator.

Considering the cost of the camera the voltage regulator is really inexpensive insurance.
