Unfortunately I switched to the 50mm f/1.8 so I could grab some shots in the parking lot. It's not wide enough to see it but there was probably about 5 or 6 more police vehicles to the left of where I was shooting this picture from. It was really dark and as you can see, a flash would have drawn a bit more attention from the...authorities...a couple of them were eyeing me already and spending a night in a cell is probably not as nice as spending it in my own bed.

There was a hip hop show I was shooting photos for and they went over the allotted time agreed upon by the promoters and the hotel, so the manager was going to ask them to leave. He came up on stage and then left without doing anything. 15 minutes later he literally pulled the plug on the sound board....of course it's after these guys showed up to make sure there wasn't any trouble.

After all, can you blame him? Who wants to be the one to end the fun for 300+ drunk people...at least without a little backup

What were the camera settings (shutter speed specifically). It looks pretty detailed considering how dark it was. Any shots of the actual event? :)

There's a short hand here for "menace". I'm trying to understand it. How often have stupendously pricy cinematographers packed this sort of information into a shot to tell us everything we need to know about mood without a ton of narrative? Since the arrival of TV drama, directors, writers, and videographers have learned how to distill in a maximum of tension so they can tell max story in the little time allowed between ad clusters.

And here you've accomplished that. All of the elements tell us something destabilizing has happened. That resolution could be angry. There's so much tension in your frame. Nice capture. Now I've got to deconstruct it to figure out how to make some of my images work this effectively.
