I am looking to get into HDR photography and I would ideally like to have a camera that I can set up to do an exposure bracketing burst mode. I want to just set it up and have it automatically take a regular exposed pic as well as an over and under exposed. Is this possible with the A630? If not, what are some cameras that do do that?

I can't find anyone talking about it at other sites. Thanks!

Have you read the manual? Have you researched the CHDK files?

I've read all I could find about it, but everyone uses different terms for this feature. i just want to know if it can do it or not. is that link to the wiki the firmware it uses? i see they have HDR samples, but i want to know if it can be in a burst mode.

The A630 does not have exposure bracketing according to the manual since it is never mentioned. Try this script. http://scratchpad.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK/uBASIC/Scripts:_HDR_with_stacking

The G7 does bracketing: you can set the range of under/over exposing

S3 and S5 also have bracketing which can be set in +/- increments and 3 shots are taken when the shutter is pressed. There is also focus bracketing but I have not been successful in getting it to work.

Is exposure bracketing the same thing as white balance? The a630/640 lets you change it in manual, Av or Tv mode. The a630/640 can't fire three shot bursts in different increments like the original poster wants though.

No, it isn't.

Can you please explain what it is?

Exposure bracketing is taking 3 shots, one under, one at, and one over, the "correct" exposure. White balance is because every different source of light has its own "colour temperature", for instance daylight's much bluer than the very "warm" light from incandescent bulbs. White balance makes allowances for the different colours of the light you may be using (or makes its best guess, anyhow). But it won't affect exposure at all.

Thanks for the explanation Jon. How could I do something like this with an a640?

Like which? Exposure bracketing? You need to do that "manually". The top left button on the back of the cam. (E.C/trash icons) activates the exposure compensation. You then use the left and right arrow buttons to change the offset up to 2 stops above or below the "normal" exposure. You need to change it to the desired offset, take the photo and reset to the next "bracket" step. P. 57 of the "Advanced" manual. E.C. isn't available in all modes.

White Balance (p. 58, "Advanced") is on the "Func." menu. Use the various arrow keys to choose it and choose the desired white balance if AWB isn't working for you. Again, it's not available for all modes.

Ok thanks Jon. I was doing exposure bracketing but confused it with white balance.
