I'm looking to get one of the extremely compact Elph model cameras. There are too many models to count and I'm having trouble narrowing it down. Can someone tell me which they have and whether they are pleased with it. I want small with decent picture quality. Thanks for any thoughts you may have.

I got my wife the SD600; if you like wide angle (17 mm or so on your 30Ds), your choice will be seriously reduced.

Depends what you're looking for. If you want a simple point and shoot, the SD750 (3" LCD, no viewfinder) or SD1000 (2.5" LCD w/ viewfinder) would probably do. If you want a bit more zoom and image stabilization, then look at the SD800 IS or SD850 IS. The 800 has a wide angle lens whereas the 850 has just a bit more zoom length (4x vs 3.8x). The SD900 has a cool titanium body and 10mp, but I think the 800 series offers slightly better value.

I myself have the SD1000 to take to all those places I couldn't bring my S3. I bought it mainly because it was the smallest Elph (it's also completely flat) and because it took decent pictures but was relatively inexpensive.

I'd like to have a viewfinder and I suppose wide angle is nice to have since most of the time, I can move in on my subject and I would prefer to use the DSLR for real telephoto work.

Sit down and map out what kind of pictures you will be taking. Do you need it Elf size or would aXXX series (uses AA batteries so it is a little bigger) be all right. That will narrow it down some, then concentrate on the few and do a little research. After putting my SD800 IS in a Rezo 15 case, it is to big for my pocket, will probably work in a purse, and will be just great on my motorcycle. The wide angle fills a need I haven't addressed with my 30D yet. I also needed the optical view finder. I loved my wifes S1 IS, but it was bigger than I wanted and had an EVF but took great pictures. I really liked the G6, but to big and too expensive for my need.
