Off shoe cord extension?

Anyone fiddle around with making an off shoe cord (2) extension cable?

I wanted to get cable connectors and make it so that i can insert a long (12-20 foot) extension cable onto my Canon Off Shoe Cord 2, but i'm afraid to cut the cord to see if this is a possibility.

I have been contemplating this also. Could have several cords that way, in differing lenghts.
