Back around draft time there were several members that expressed interest in playing some fantasy football this year. The time has come for you football fans to join up to the POTN league. I have created a league on NFL.com that is free so even if you are new to fantasy football feel free to sign up. Here are the details:

# of teams - 12 (11 spots left)
Draft day - August 20, 2007
Time - 10:00 am EST
Draft type - Live Draft (so please be prepared to spend an hour or so on draft day to make your pics although not required)

This is my first time being a league manager but I will do my best. Express your interest here and PM me your email so I can invite you to the league. The league is password protected and you will receive the password in the email. If there is enough interest I could open additional leagues so just let me know.

EDIT: We now have 12 members so our first league is full. If there is more interest I can setup another league.

Only 3. ;) I know you are limited to 3 at NFL.com. I played 9 teams last year and I won't do that again. It took a lot of the fun out. I think I will stick to just 3 this year as well.

The rules are standard NFL.com rules, nothing special. Here is the rules for scoring and playoffs from the site:

Introduction

NFL.com Fantasy 2007
Welcome to NFL.com Fantasy 2007 (the "Contest"), where you can start your own 12-team, head-to-head Fantasy league, or join an existing one. No matter what your skill level, we'll have plenty of leagues to choose from. Most leagues include one sentence describing the type of player the league is looking to recruit (e.g., "experts," "beginners," "Colts fans," etc.) so you should have no trouble finding the right league for you. The rules for the Contest are explained fully in this document. If you'd rather make your own rules than play by ours, check out NFL.com's League Manager stats service

The Commissioner
The Commissioner of a Fantasy Football league is responsible for coordinating and managing the league. NFL.com will serve as the Commissioner for all NFL.com Fantasy 2007Contest leagues (and will be responsible for resolving any disputes that arise regarding unbalanced trades, alleged rules violations or anything else.

Leagues

For purposes of these Official Rules, "Registered User" means a person who has successfully completed the registration form and has obtained a User Identification ("User ID") and associated password ("Password") on one or more of the following CBS Interactive Inc. ("CBSII") Property Websites (the "CBS Interactive Property Websites"): CBS.com, CBSnews.com, CBS SportsLine.com, CBSgames.com, ETonline.com, NCAAsports.com, upn.com, NFL.com, PGATour.com, and/or SuperBowl.com. Such excluded employees and/or family members may play, but WILL NOT be eligible to receive any prizes.
For purposes of clarification, NFL Enterprises LLC ("NFLE") and its constituent member clubs ("Member Clubs"), will be collectively known as, the "NFL Entities."
Live Draft Leagues or Automated Draft Leagues
Your Fantasy Football team will acquire its players through a draft. NFL.com leagues can draft players in one of two ways: a Live Draft or an Automated Draft. During a Live Draft, all 12 league participants ("owners") log in to an on-line "draft room" at a scheduled time. Each owner, in draft order, has just 90 seconds to select an available NFL player for his or her team. This kind of draft is exciting but extremely fast-paced and recommended for experienced owners. See "Live Draft Instructions" section below.

If you are a beginner, or are unable to schedule a block of three or four hours for a live draft, you may prefer to participate in an Automated Draft league. At your convenience you will simply arrange players, using Rank Lists provided by NFL.com, in the order that you'd like those players selected for your team. The Automated Draft is then processed using your lists. The highest-ranked player on your lists who is available, and fits the roster needs of your team, will be selected for you during each round of the automated draft. See "Automated Draft Instructions" section below.

Private Leagues or Public Leagues
If you know all the owners who are going to be in your league, or you want to recruit individuals, you may want to join or create a Private league. The person who creates a Private league sets a password and other owners use that password to join the league. However, please keep in mind that the creator of a league will not have the ability to control any other league functions. If you already know all of the owners in your league and want complete control of your league's rules, you should also check out the NFL.com League Manager, our powerful and fully-customizable stats service.

Public Leagues are open to all eligible Registered Users. If you create or join a Public league, you will have no control over who joins the league. Be sure to read the description of the league you want to join to make sure it is suitable for you.

Winners Leagues
If you played in an NFL.com Fantasy football league (excluding League Manager leagues) in a previous year and won your league, you can play in an exclusive Winners League. To create or join a Winners League, you must use the same NFL.com ID you used when you won your league.

League Joining Deadline
You can sign up and join a league anytime up to 11:59:59 PM ET on 10/11/2007. All leagues are required to have 12 participants, or team "owners." For leagues that draft after 09/06/2007, your league's start date will begin with the next official scoring period which will be after the last game of the previous week.

Draft

Live Draft Instructions
After you join or create a Live Draft league, you will have the opportunity to make changes to NFL.com's default Rank List, which is a list of all NFL players that are eligible to be drafted, ranked from best to worst by our Fantasy experts.

It is recommended that you, prior to your draft, organize the Rank List according to your own player preferences. However, you are welcome to leave the Rank List in the order our experts have provided. During the live draft NFL.com will use your Rank List as a backup in case your time limit expires before you make a pick (explained below). If you decide to make changes to your Rank List, you will have until approximately 24 hours prior to your draft time to do so. At that time, the Rank list will be closed and considered ready for the draft.
On draft day there will be a "Draft Room" link at the top of your League Home page. The link is also available in the Draft Prep column located to the left side of the screen. This link will allow entry into the draft room. During the Live Draft, each team will have 90 seconds to select an NFL player. The order of the draft will be randomly generated between midnight and 6:00 AM ET either the day of, or the day before the draft. If your league does not have 12 team owners on the morning of the draft, your league will be disbanded and each owner will have to join or create another league.
In the draft room, you will be able to place NFL players into a Draft Queue - which is simply a list of players, in order of priority, that you are interested in taking with your next draft pick. When it is your turn to pick, you will have 90 seconds to draft a player. If the 90 seconds pass and you have not manually selected a player, the player ranked highest in your Draft Queue will be automatically drafted. If the Draft Queue is empty, a pick will then be made from your Rank List. The draft order will "snake" at the end of each round, meaning that the team with the last pick in the current round will have the first pick in the next round.
You'll find more help with the live draft inside the league after signup.
Automated Draft Instructions
As with a Live Draft, after creating or joining an Automated Draft league, you will have the opportunity to rank all the eligible NFL players. However, in an Automated Draft you can organize 6 Rank Lists - one list for each Fantasy position: QB, RB, WR, TE, K, DST. You will rank the players on each list in the order of your preference, with the player you'd most like to draft being #1 on a list, and so on.

You will assign these rank lists to each of the 14 rounds of your draft, based on the position you would like to draft in each round (i.e. If you feel QBs represent the strongest position, then assign the QBs rank list to the first round; if you feel RBs represent the next strongest position, assign the RBs rank list to the second round, and so on.)
As in the Live Draft, you are not required to make changes to our rank lists. If you choose not to, our default lists, which reflect the rankings of our Fantasy experts, will be used. However, if you decide to organize the lists yourself, you will have up to 24 hours prior to your draft day to do so. When there are 24 hours left until your draft day, the rank lists will be closed and considered ready for the draft.
On the morning of the scheduled draft day, an Automated Draft will be conducted. Players will automatically be drafted for you using your Rank Lists. An e-mail will be sent to each owner after the draft has been completed.
For both the Live Draft and the Automated Draft, the table below (each number in the table refers to each team's draft position for that round) sets forth the draft order for the full 14 rounds of the draft. You'll see that the order staggers each round of the draft (Team #1 has the first pick in round 1; Team #6 has the first pick in round 2, etc.) so that each team will have the opportunity to draft 1st in a round at least once.

In the preseason, waiver priority immediately after the draft will be the reverse order of the first round of the draft.". So Team #12 will have the highest waiver priority and Team #1 the lowest waiver priority. See Waivers. below to see how players may be added to a team.s roster through waivers.

Teams

Teams Overview
Each NFL.com Fantasy 2007 league will consist of 12 teams, which will be randomly divided by the Commissioner into three divisions of 4 teams each. The divisions will be called: East, Central, and West.

Each roster will consist of 14 NFL players. Owners may select a starting lineup each week from these 14 players. The chart below lists the required number of players at each position for the 'starting lineup' and the 'draft'.

Note: Individual defensive players are not drafted; rather, you will draft an NFL team's entire defensive/special teams unit. For the purpose of roster limits, each NFL defensive/special teams unit will count as one "player."Roster RequirementsPositionStarting Lineup*Auto Draft**Live Draft***Quarterback (QB)121 or 2Running Back (RB)232, 3, 4, or 5Wide Receiver (WR)333, 4, or 5Tight End (TE)121 or 2Kicker (K)121 or 2Defensive Team (DST)121 or 2All Positions ****91414

* You are allowed as many as 9 players in your starting lineup, according to the positional requirements listed in the table above. However the numbers in the "starting lineup" column represent the maximum number of players you may have at each position. You may use fewer players than the number listed at each position without penalty.

** Team owners that elect to participate in a league with an 'Automated Draft' will have their rosters populated according to the criteria listed in the 'Roster Requirements' table. Players will be drafted based upon their order within each team owner's Rank List and position within the draft. For more information, please refer to the Automated Draft Instructions listed above.

*** Team owners participating in a 'Live Draft' league will be required to select a total of 14 players based upon the criteria defined in the 'Roster Requirements' table above. During the draft, team owners must draft a combined total of 7 Running Backs and Wide Receivers with a minimum of 3 players from each of these positions. One additional Running Back or Wide Receiver must also be chosen to fulfill the 'Live Draft' requirements. For more information, please refer to the Live Draft Instructions listed above.

**** Please note that, throughout the season, your overall roster is not restricted to a specific number of players at each position. Once the draft is over, you can carry, in reserve, as many or as few players at each position as you like, as long as your overall roster does not exceed 14 players.

Scoring

Point Values
Each week your team will compete against another team in your league in a head-to-head matchup. During a matchup, each of the players in your 'starting lineup' ('active' players) for that week will earn points based on their actual statistics from NFL games. The charts below list the statistics and their corresponding point values.

Wins & Losses
For each head-to-head matchup, the team with the greater number of points will earn a Win and the team with the lesser number a Loss. During the regular season, if two teams have the same number of points, each team will get a Tie. During the playoffs, there are no ties, and the team with the highest number of points scored by its 'reserve' (bench) players in that playoff game will be the winner. If this doesn't break the tie, then the team with the higher playoff seed gets the Win.

NOTES

Offensive Scoring (QB, RB, WR, TE) Any offensive player will receive points for any offensive statistics he accumulates. Scoring will be calculated according to the following example: If a QB throws for 200 yards and 2 TDs; rushes for 20 yards and 1 TD; and has 25 yards receiving, his point total for the week would be: 3 TDs = 18 points, 200yds Passing = 8 points, 20yds Rushing = 2 points, 25yds receiving = 2 points; or 30 total points for the week.
Defensive / Special Team scoring Your defense/special teams is awarded points when any one of its members generates a TD, INT, fumble recovery, safety or sack. Your defense/special teams unit is also awarded points for a kickoff or punt return that results in a TD. For instance, if your active defense/special teams is the Saints and Reggie Bush returns a punt for a TD, you get 6 points. In the same situation, a team using Reggie Bush as an active RB would NOT be awarded points.
Fumbles Lost by a player on special teams or defense will lose 2 points if they turn the ball over to the opposing team at any time such player is on the field. For instance, if you have Reggie Bush active at RB and he fumbles the ball away at any time while he is on the field, your team will lose 2 points. This includes a fumble lost while returning a punt, kick, interception (if your RB were playing defense) or while on offense at RB.
Defensive Points Allowed will take into account ALL the points allowed by the team as a whole. This includes points scored against the offense (TD from an interception, safeties, etc.) and special teams (punt return for a TD) as well as those scored against the defense.
Defensive Touchdowns are any touchdowns scored by the defensive team. This includes fumble returns and interception returns.
Special Teams Touchdowns are touchdowns scored by punt returns, kickoff returns or returns of blocked kicks or punts.
To calculate the Total Yards Allowed, simply add the other team's Total Rushing and Total Passing Yards gained.
Rounding will NOT be used when calculating points from statistics. For example, 49 yards rushing will result in 4 points, not 5.Statistics Corrections
Following the completion of each week's games, all statistics and point totals are verified, and corrections are made where necessary. However, all statistics and point totals for the week are considered FINAL as of Wednesday. If a stat correction is announced for the previous weekend's games on Wednesday or later, it will not be included in our statistics and your official Fantasy scoring will be based on the original statistic.

Schedule & Playoffs

Regular Season
The first 14 weeks of the NFL season represent the regular season for NFL.com Fantasy 2007 leagues. During these 14 weeks, each team will play the other teams in its division twice each, and they will play teams in the other divisions once each. When the draft is complete, you can see your team's specific schedule by clicking the Schedule link

Playoffs
When the 14-game regular season ends, four (4) teams from the league will make the playoffs: the three (3) division leaders (the team with the best win/loss record in each division) and a wildcard team, which is the team with the best win/loss record in the league, excluding the three (3) division leaders.

The division leader with the best record going into the playoffs will be the #1 seed, and the #1 seed will play the wildcard (seed #4) in the first playoff match in NFL Week 15. The other division leaders will be seeded #2 and #3, and will also face each other in week 15.

If there is a tie for a division lead, the following tie-breakers will be used.

Division Record; and if there is still a tie,
Year To Date ("YTD") Points Scored; and if there is still a tie
Random Draw between the tied participantsIf there is a tie for a Wildcard spot, the following tie-breakers will be used:

YTD Points Scored; and if there is still a tie
Points Against; and if there is still a tie,
Random Draw between the tied participants*NOTE: For leagues whose season started with NFL week 2 or later, the only tiebreaker used will be YTD points scored.

For teams that do not qualify for the playoffs, the season will effectively end. No further add/drop transactions will be permitted for any team that does not make the playoffs, or for any team that is eliminated from the playoffs.

Alright, I got a response from the help center on changing the time. We can't. Here is what they said:

Once a league has been created, you cannot change that league's details (league name, private/public, draft date, etc.). You will need to use the "Change Leagues" link to create or join a league with a different draft date.

What we could do is let me do the "change league" and start a new one with the time we would like the draft and then re-register for the new league by using the same Change League link. What does eveyone think? What tiem would you like the draft to be?

Hi Mike, I'm good with whatever the others want. My schedule is unknown even 24 hours in advance so I'll just go along with the flow. I wonder if weekend drafts are available, last few years I have played NFL Fantasy the drafts were on weekdays, one was Monday, August 29 2005, the day Katrina hit. Needless to say I had to rely on the automated draft that year.

We now have 11 of 12 spots filled and the consensus about time seems to be a weekend spot preferably later on Sunday evening. If I get no objections to this by the end of today I will create a league at that time slot.

Jon makes 12 so we have a full legaue. However I have talked with JON via PM and he is going to wait to join until after we setup the new league, as I thought that would be easier.

So we have a full league :D but as I said if I have more interest I can setup another league.

We now have 11 of 12 spots filled and the consensus about time seems to be a weekend spot preferably later on Sunday evening. If I get no objections to this by the end of today I will create a league at that time slot.

This time completely works for me! Let the games begin!

OK, here is the deal. I have created a new league with the time slot mentioned above (August 19, 2007 @ 9:15 PM ET). So we all need to switch leagues. Here is how (this keeps the same team name for each person).

1. Click on the change league link on the main page.
2. On the new page scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "Search for League by Name".
3. On the new page type POTN and click OK.
4. Click on POTN 2.
5. Click Join League on the right and enter the password "Canon".

This removes you from POTN and moves you to POTN 2.

Thanks Mike,

I signed up for the league. I tried the fantasy football for the first time last year and the results weren't pretty. Hopefully, all my players won't get injured this year.

Between checking fantasy football stats and this camera forum, I will never get any work done.

I played in a league last year with 3 wide outs and I enjoyed it. There is enough depth at that position around the league to have the three spots and have them all get you some points....and least from what I saw. It might change your draft strategy though so its good to know that now - up front.

Its funny because my most productive WR's last year were not the ones that I drafted - they were the ones that I picked up in free agency after the first few games of the season. There are always those players every year that people don't expect much from that "blow up". For me last year Frank Gore was a good example - he was not drafted in my league and he is in the top 5 running backs this year in the rankings that I have reviewed.

Yup, if you don't get one of the top 3-5 guys it can hurt but I have seen TE go way too early and those teams didn't do well. So I don't focus on them much.

There are a handful of productive TE's in the league - fantasy wise - and the rest its almost a crap shoot. Most teams have more than one TE that they use too - so a lot of time the get split receptions with some other schmoe.

Yeah, I had Jones-Drew and Romo last year too, after having to sub for McNabb who was outright winning games by himself the first 4-5 weeks. I had drafted Jones-Drew, Maroney and V. If you bothered to read the rules of the league, NEGATIVE points for INTs. Manning simply doesn't toss INTs hardly at all. That is the difference between the other 2 or 3 QBs you are referring to. And Manning will do this every damn week this year. The super bowl is won...this is all-stats year for the Colts!

You might have noticed that the passes Manning threw were beautiful spirals in precise locations. Not normally a Peyton trait, as he's thrown ducks in the past. He is shooting for another 45+ TD season.

Thanks to my stupidity you got to pick Manning. Fumbles also count as negative points, I can vouch for that. Good luck for all you guys this weekend, but the Corgi doesn't lie, Manning looks in top form. I'll be looking up from the cellar again this year it seems.

Corgi, isn't it nice to be paid to pick Michigan #5 and Va. Tech #9, man I wish I could get money for being so wrong. I would have made a few bucks already based on my draft choices. Early polls mean nothing, that's why they play the games. LSU did look pretty good though, but the SEC is full of pitfalls and they will probably lose to somebody they should have beaten by the end of the year. Did anyone see the kid from Oregon? What a prospect, runs like Vick and throws like Manning. It will be another fun year for college fans.

So far my first week is going really bad. The only brightside was the Chargers' D and John Kasay. Otherwise everyone else has done horrible. LJ has only 8 points, Jones Drew has 3, yup that is right 3, Gonzalez had 2, and Berrian and Roy Williams had 8 each. Rivers had 3 also. I debated for so long to start Cutler over Rivers.

Yeah but high teens for RBs is nothing. AP is the leader right now at 22. WR started out big this year. 32 for Plax, 24 for Moss, 21 for Wayne and a bunch between 15-20. Just a wierd start this year is all.

As for free agent shopping I have already started. If fact I am even employing a little strategy to try and help my chances of picking up someone. Can't say what though. ;)

Cat fighting implies girls are included.

And part of FF is trash talking - it just part of the game.

God my team is so lame...

But not as lame as the no-class, cheating patriots. Goodell is going to hand out suspensions this week.

This moron was being blatent. Christ! Look at that huge video camera he's aiming directly at the Jets' coaching staff. This is a real photo too! Click for larger pic...

If Belichick gets suspended, it'll be for being a cheater and a moron. :-P

What's ridiculous about it is that the Patriots are stacked with talent more so than most other teams. I could see the Bucs or Chiefs doing this - but not that Pats.

LOL...I just had a conversation here in the office about the very same point. I could see the Browns doing it, but the Patriots? All I know is this: by the time the second super bowl was over, in particular, the talent level on the defensive side had taken a huge hit. If I was going to pick a point where I felt like that sort of activity probably started, I would point to the '04 or '05 season. That's also the year that Miami says they caught NE doing it, followed by the Pack's claim in '06 and now the red-handed grab in '07. This seems to have become a cultural problem at NE. I expect to see suspensions being handed down in addition to the loss of draft picks. The defensive and offensive coaches and team captains had to be in on it for it to have been a functional strategy, as well. I just lost a lot of respect for Tom Brady as a player and a person (he's the only person on the pats I had respect for before this).

Well fellow losers, there is always next week. Uhhhg, till we run out of weeks that is.Some of the big name backs started a little slow last year, no need to panic yet.

Not panicing just yet, especially since my strategy paid off.

Since I had almost no chance winning going into Monday's games I sat Larry Fitzgerald so that I wouldn't gain any more points (even though he was only good for 2). This put me second on the waiver list and scored me two big performers from week one, Lamont Jordan and Ronald Curry. Happy as a pig in slop. :D

If filming the other coaches signals is cheating then you need to stop everything like filming, scouting other teams. Coaches in the skybox watching the game. Sending down shots of plays to the team so they can look at the lineup. Microphones, player headsets, ect.....I think it should be called getting an edge on the other team rather than cheating. They should be awarded a first round pick.

Ugh! This is going to be a long year.:lol:

My team sucks! No other way to put it, they just plain suck. I feel like the Saints, overrated and under performing. And this is not just our league. I am getting my butt kicked in all but one league right now. All the guys that I picked that are supposed to be good, aint!

What have I gotten myself into?

Mike, I feel for you buddy.

When women are depressed they go shopping, I tried that but all that caught my eye was a length of rope.

Other than this league last week I am sucking pretty bad with my picks.

Speaking of players, I had Terry Glenn (knee surgery) then I picked up Crayton and he gets a finger injury. I played Kitna and he went out with a concussion while I had Farve on the bench.

This is going to be one of those years that anything can and will happen. Nothing will be predictable.

The only bright spot in my roster was the Pat's D. That is until I got an e-mail asking for contributions to help pay the fine

No that email was for Belichik's extension, not the fine.

This year will be crazy, anything can happen.
I mean who would of thought that the browns would score that many points against the bengals.
We will see next week, what three headed monster comes out.

Weird fantasy year to say the least.

But, I am 3-2 and traded away Delhomme a few weeks back - so not all bad!

Thanks mdm, I never rooted so hard for field goals before. It is a weird season, who could have predicted Romo playing so bad against the Bills. Some teams seem to have come alive again, the Bears and the Chargers finally got a fresh breath of air. College football is all upside down too. what a crazy season when 7 0f the top 13 lose in one week. USC loses to a 41 point underdog, is there a pattern emerging. I love it though, the dynasties were boring if you didn't live in a dynasty town.:)
