When are the best times to use my polerized filter with my 17-40. I live in montana so i do alot of mountain shots. tell me when you think i should use it. Also do you use the case the filter comes in ( the hoya case ) or did you buy a new case? thanx

id use it when u got a nice sunny day with nice clouds. just make sure they are in the correct spot in the sky. easy way to tell is make your hand like your are going to shoot someone with your finger (thumb up), turn your hand sideways and point finger at sun. where your thumb points is the sky that will show the polarizing effect best.

oops forgot, id use case it came in cuz its sorta free and its made for the filter so should keep it safe.

Bright sunny conditions, when you're shooting sky as described above, or any time you're shooting non-metallic reflective surfaces (paint, glass, etc.). I have Tiffen and B+W filter wallets since I carry multiple filters around.

The longer and darker your shadow is , the better the cpl will work . A rule of thumb is - put on a baseball hat - if it stops the sun from your eyes , the cpl won't do much if anything .
The sun needs to be on the left or right of where camera is pointed .
There should be a dot , shinny spot , or arrow on cpl - point it at sun - thats the strongest effect - turn and trees aren't as green and sky isn't as blue .
Now go outside and play with it .
