Air Travel - Too Large for Carry-On?

I'm going on a trip later this week and want to take my gear with me. Question is, do you think the Crumpler Karachi Outpost is too large for the overhead bins? I don't really want to check the bag, since it will have probably close to $4k worth of equipment.

I'm going to check the size restrictions on the carrier's website - hopefully that will give me an idea...

just a reminder, if you're traveling a small commuter plan the over head bins are a lot smaller, so you should consider if it will fit under the seat if need be...

We're flying United. The plane is listed as "Canandair Regional Jet 700 CR7" on the trip out, and an "Airbus A319" on return.

This may give an idea on weight...

"Canandair Regional Jet 700 CR7" - I just flew on two of these and the seating is kinda tight and I only weigh 140 lbs. I highly doubt it'll fit the overhead bin yet possible it'll go under the seat in front of you but very limited space for your feet though.

I had a North Face Recon Daypack loaded down with my stuff and was cramped for three hours.

the A319 will be no problem (but keep in mind the airline could change the plane at anytime) the regional jet, if it's the one i'm thinking of may be a problem because the overhead bins are really shallow. i don't have that bag, but looking at pictures i would be concerned enough that i would want to have a backup plan. like have a smaller handbag that can fit the high dollar items that you can stow under the seat, and send the misc. things in the hold.

Just as an FYI - the 319 was no problem for the Karachi Outpost... and we didn't have to worry with the regional jet. My wife was late getting packed, so we missed our original flight, and flew to and from Chicago on the 319.

I just flew on a md-8x series plan via allegiant air and my karachi outpost was my carry on. it doesn't fit well under the seat if you have a laptop in it, but it'll fit overhead just fine.

Nice bag but it doesn't have a prayer of fitting in either the overvhead OR under the seat on a CRJ. It would have to be gate checked.

I think the OP has the right idea - contact the airline...

I always think the obvious answer to all the 'how big' or 'how heavy' can my bag be questions, is to actually contact the airline themselves.
I also would have thought that all the info is on the tickets/emails under 'terms & conditions' etc.


Maybe I'm being too simplistic and boring :-) :-)
