I dont really know anything about digital photography so I have a few questions and would greatly appreciate it if you could answer them.

1) do they catch more color and bring them out better then other cameras? or is that just the people enhancing them with photoshop?

2) do they have a much closer focus range? or is that just the macro lens?

I dont remember the others, but it would be awesome if you could answer those. :D

-thanks

I don't think they catch more colors than analg camera.
Regarding to closer focus range, I think it depends more on the lens.
The main difference between digital cameras and analog one is that the size of the sensor is smaller, so with the same lens you will have more tele and less wide angle.
For instance on the Digital rebel a 50 mm becomes 50*1.6=80mm

However there is a digital camera where the size of the sensor is the same as analog cameras. It's the canon 1Ds.

So I can do all or most of the same pictures I see on this site with the exception of the enhanced ones with my analog camera as long as I have the right gear?

Pretty much anything you can do with a digital you can do with analog. You can even do the editing with photoshop if you get a good scanner.

The reason I went digital is because it allows me to take more photographs because I don't have to get all my film developed. I hardly ever used my film slr because I didn't like to pay for the film if the pictures didn't come out the way I liked. Plus being able to preview and delete as I go is a nice feature.

this is just my 2 cents.

Shooting digital is cheaper, faster, and more fun way more fun than
shooting film, unless you're into developing your own prints. Just my
opinion.

As to your questions, unfortunately, I'm unqualiified to answer them.

The only reason I replied to this post is because it seems to imply
a pending decision to switch from film to digital.

To answer your first question... they don't catch more color. Actually you will have more lively and contrasty pictures coming from a film camera because of the larger dynamic range. In most cases, the difference will not bother you.

fousing depends on which digital camera, and which lens....
Get a 1DMkII and I doubt you will have complaints about focusing

A lot of times some of the digital bodies use the same autofocusing system as some film bodies.

In most cases.... once you go digital, you don't go back
