....bought a Nikon D40 instead of a Canon EOS.

although we would probably laugh at you for buying a camera with a crippled choice of AF lenses :rolleyes:

To be very honest, I've ordered me a Nikon D40 yesterday. Should be a lot better than my current Ricoh Caplio G3, but hey... That's not a DSLR now is it? Should I be fine though, since this is my first DSLR?

I was actually wanting to go for the EOS 400D, but that was €250 heavier in my pocket, so my choice was easily made (by my wife though...).

You hardly will get alot of support for your decision on a Canon forum. Nikon does make good cameras. They are notorious for not dealing with high ISO very well but if you don't do alot of that work then you should be fine.
