GKPE - WRC weekend New Zealand - planning thread

Right - time is here to plan for the forth coming WRC event coming to our shores.

Its the weekend of August 31 - September 2nd

I am planning to fly up the evening of the 30th and then fly back 3rd September.

So the question is else who is keen ?

Its based in Hamil-tron - but i plan to commute from Auckland.

It would also be nice to go out on the beers on the Saturday night around the Viaduct. ( i here cowboys bar is worth a visit. ;) )

So.......

What day suits for a GKPE meet - Saturday ?
Who is coming ?
Transport options ?
Who wants to come out for a meal and few cold ones (Saturday evening)?
and any other questions that anyone else can think of.

for thous people not into cars - i would like to do something else on the Sunday. (so ideas for that would be great too)

If I am available I'm keen. Need to check the date closer to time and suss out if that weekend is taken up with that Theatre shoot I have.

Haven't shot rally before (not too interested in it actually (don't be too hard on me Chris) but keen to get together for another bash.

You can get so close to the action at points, you'd also need your wide angle.

I'm keen for something on the Saturday and Sunday, but think I would pushing it on taking any weekdays off since it will be my first month in a new job, and I know I will be walking right into a massive project.

Friday is just going to be bumming around Akl. unless the weka has something planned.

Which we will need on the Saturday and Sunday if you want to get to the WRC

How are you going to get about on Friday and Monday though? I need my car to get to work, no public transport here.

Chris, I will be going down there as well. I'm not sure if I'll stay with my brother in Hamilton or commute.

If I commute, I've got a 8 seater if required.

I also caught up with a guy the other day, (well not really, he's a mechanic who does our vehicle servicing). He has just about given up swinging a wrench and is heavily involved with video camera installs, a bit of on site interviews etc for motorsport. I'll try & do a bit of greasing & see what I can orgainise some better access.

Not sure of his name, works for Mt Smart Mechanical in Penrose (when he's mechanicing!) He's about 35-40, six foot & of slim build with thinning hair(just like me!)

Would be nice if I could make it as well. Will have to talk to my funds manager. Been too much on-call lately so the $$$ is alright. Days off may be the problem. We've also got a few other plans on as well so don't know if they will coincide.

what are you talking about? there's the train system... only a few minutes walk from your house (ok only 180 minutes walk but you get the idea)

I'm trying to think of a way of lending you my car on friday. The only catch is you would have to back in Auckland by 4:30, if you goto the WRC that isn't going to happen.

just booked flights - slight change of plan - fly in friday at at 8:15 am - leave monday at 11:45.

Last year, Warren went down on the Friday (the weather was shocking) but I think he was able to go a few more places on the shake-downs than on the two days of special stages.

Err you can hire a car for as cheap as $30-$40 a day with unlimited kms.... :D lol its not that expensive really,...
